That's a perception that's circulated by the US media. It isn't really true. Being ignorant of something does not mean it doesn't happen. In point of fact, it does - there have been discussions on this very point on VJ in the past. You can find them in the archive.

What precisely does this thread do for your understanding of muslims? Do you come away from it knowing more than you did before?

BULLCRAP and you know it.

What muslim unless in a secluded convent doesn't know about the acts of terror committed in other coutnries and their own; why would a leader pressure a police officer (if they did) not to arrest these criminals if yo kow of it then the organization needs to be rooted out by the leaders or else the leaders are no different.

I come away knowing that some people will ignore facts and chalk it up to a few minor horrific incendents. in which underly larger problems in the society.

Bulling somone trying to do the right thing against an evli act is the same as commiting the act.

They may be Christian, but their faith isn't indicted by their bad acts, as Islam is for the bad acts of even the most nominal Muslim. The attack may be real, but only one point of view is offered. That makes the reporting of it prejudicial against Muslims, which is why JAS posted it. If you can't see that, you miss a lot about his purpose for posting negative articles about Muslims.

Of course it is...check out how many people have something negative to say about Christians, or how Catholic priests are all child molesters. The point is, the few ruin it for the good.

There will be people who don't like Muslims/Christians/etc based on what they read. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do about that.

The biggest story in Pakistan right now is the massive flooding that has killed and displaced hundreds of thousands of people. In light of that, it seems (at the very least) to be an odd choice to post this particular story, if someone is merely (and innocently) posting random stories about other cultures....

So? Who are you to try to micromanage someone's thread making choices?

Why is it bullsh!t?

The reason I asked that is because I wanted to know what people took from this story that was "informative" - either about Islam or Muslims.

I was ok with the question this question it was the statment before I wasnt ok with.

I don't see what you're getting at. There is a perception promoted by the US media that muslims don't condemn acts of terrorism. It simply isn't true.

What statement are you referring to?

No bashing

I heard an interesting question on the Willkow Majority show.

Why is the Imam raising $100 mill for this building in NYC when the money is obviously needed in Pakistan right now.

You don't think that it's odd to ignore the biggest news story in Pakistan in order to focus on this one? It goes back to what I said before - that JAS is pushing an agenda of prejudice.

You might as well ask why anyone is spending money on anything when there are more desperate causes that need it.

For the same reason that nobody abandons their day to day life in order to save everyone who is currently in poverty. You (he is) are asking why America is not communist in effect, well, I think we know why that is.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Despite that, there is a balance in the news that didn't allow for only the anti-Catholic pov. There is none of that when it comes to Muslims.

There will be people who don't like Muslims/Christians/etc based on what they read. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do about that.

And there will alwats be people who appease them. You can avoid being one of them by giving motives more thought.

So? Who are you to try to micromanage someone's thread making choices?

Why are you trying to micromanage dissent against prejudicial posting?

The one above I agree media may not provide the full picture

Show me when an Islamic extremist and/or terrorist organization was denounced ejected arressted punished etc by islam leaders.

Show me Islam leader refusing to give money to these organizations

show me Islam leader not taking money from these leaders

show me what is the Islamic law of against an act of terror in the name of "Jihad" against another country even if the rest of Islam is not at war with the country.

Why would *I* do that

If *you* are genuinely interested in this, wouldn't *you* look for it?

As I said, you can look in the archive if you care to. Or not.

It seems as though guilt by opinion is okay by a few. Seems odd that its coming from the "tolerant" crowd.

That could be asked about any church, mosque or synagogue building project. Money is always needed somewhere else, and always will be.
