Problem is, those counts are probably pretty accurate, depending on the embassy/consulate. I've read up on the London timeframe and it seems that the majority of people say 3-5 business days, but some people have waited a week or two. Other places I've seen where they give you the visa the day of the interview, and some I've seen take closer to a month. Apparently it's as varied as the USCIS issuing the NOA2.

Wish I could give you a better answer, but unfortunately that's the best I can do.

Which ever is faster. With these obscure timelines it's pretty damn hard to purchase flight tickets if things are up in the air so much.

I am planning to purchase plane ticket once we receive our visa.

Looking at your timeline you have plenty of time, 17 business days from the day you have interview until departure.

When we have our interview, I was planning to go to Ukraine for ~10 days, 5 days to receive visa, 5 days to say good-byes and pack.

The embassy in Ukraine generally gets the visa out within 5 days. You have to add to that time any U.S or Ukrainian holidays since everything closes regarding the visa for both type of holidays.

The FedEx office is usually pretty good about contacting you when it comes in, if you have arranged with them before to pick it up at their office. Often a phone call by your fiancee to the embassy will get her in contact with the person that actually packages it up to FedEx. Try that.

By the way, congratulations. Look to see you in the region forum.

Some members have gotten the visa the next day. Some have waited more than a week, some have waited more than several weeks. All are "realistic". Typically it will be at the Fedex office in Kiev about 2 BUSINESS days after the interview, delivery from that point depends on how far it is going from Kiev. Add 1-3 BUSINESS days for delivery after that. Fastest way is to pick it up at the Fedex office and that is one of your options for delivery.

We made no attempt to do anything until the visa was in hand. Alla arrived exactly one month after getting her visa in hand. She had business matters to wrap up and did nothing to end her business responsibilities until the visa was in her hand.
