Being Interviewed Soon in Montreal..Question about not having Passport?

okay so my fiance is nearing her K1 interview in Montreal. I just realized that they want some Passport + One Copy of the biographical. However my Fiance is _NOT_ a citizen of Canada, she landed there as a Refugee. She does however have a Canadian Travel Document(blue) which she paid for in January. Seeing that she can't get a Canadian passport unless she's a citizen, so next best thing was Travel Document

so.....Do you guys think Montreal will make a big deal about this??

The travel document takes the place of the passport. They should be able to use it in the same way as they use the passport - which is to attach physically the K-1 visa (and when she enters the US, to staple the I-94). I would suggest that she also bring copies of her refugee status papers with her to the interview as they may not be very familiar with the Travel Document and may wish to verify her status. It is better to have them and not need them, than need them and not have them. I am assuming, of course, that she is not able to get a passport from her country of origin (which is why she would be issued the Travel Document).

I doubt it will be a problem. Good luck to you both.

POE will be Ottawa, so get to airport early

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
