Hello all,

Just a quick rant...I will do a review of the interview when I have calmed down

I went to the embassy today and was told my birth certificate is not accepted, I need a long-form version???

Why is this not on the instructions?

I have never even heard of it. If the embassy wants these documents they should clearly state what it is they want. I have only ever had 1 birth certificate, and have used it for all sorts in the past. I have never heard or seen any other version. I am so so upset and angry. To top it off the woman was so rude and unfriendly. Not a good experience at all. So our case is suspended until I get the correct birth certificate.

Does anyone know how to make an official complaint?

I feel that the whole k1 process has been handled badly ever since it got finished byUSCIS. Everything the embassy has sent me has been very vague. It seems like this is an important and high security thing to do, and yet as far as documents go it's hard to get the correct info, they need a proper detailed checklist. Every review I read is differetn and its really not fair on us, the applicants, who are trying to deal with this tough process.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Really sorry if I sound harsh, but the instructions are very clear that the short form is not acceptable -- it's even there on the website: http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html It should have also been on the checklist you received with P3.

I don't think you'll get very far with a complaint for something that the consulate can say they made clear, since the majority of people do get this right. Again, sorry if I come off on the harsh side here. On the bright side, you only need to get this sorted out. Once you submit the document, your processing will recommence. It should only add a week's delay if you get onto this in a timely fashion. Best of luck.

It's all here: http://london.usembassy.gov/interview_documents.html. "Note: We will not accept the short form version of a UK birth certificate. The certificate must list both parents'names. "

I can see how this would be easy to overlook, but the only thing you can do now is get the form they want and get it back to the embassy so you can get your visa.

Really? I thought P3 directed people to a link on the embassy website. If you can message me the link you received in your P3, I can check the website and ask the embassy web developer to fix the site. I have done this in the past, and they're pretty speedy at it (you have to ask them nicely, though) :)

Good luck with the rest of your journey. It won't be long now, right? How long until the bc arrives?

London did change their website recently and a few people got links in their P3 letter that weren't valid anymore because of the website change.. But like the new pages, even the old version that had been there since maybe Jan 2009 clearly explained the birth certificate, but you had to click on the links to get the information. The list of documents had little pop open paragraphs with more details about the list items.

A word to those just getting to the embassy stage, read every single word on the webpage they send you and click every link.
