Hello VJ Friends,

I may have to visit extended family in London sometime in September (depends on if it works out with vacation or not). I generally plan to take clothes (t-shirts, shirts, etc) as gifts for my uncle and their kids. Do you guys have any other suggestion. I am not sure what are some things from US that are popular in UK. Are there any particular brand that I should consider? If not clothing, feel free to suggest other ideas which are good too (no electronic devices please, I am not so rich :) :) ).

I do apologize for posting non-immigration related question here but this is the only forum I'm familiar with and I've always gotten good answers here so I hope I can find good suggestion here this time too. Thank you for help!!!

Candy that you can't buy in the UK is often a good idea (especially for the kids) - and it's cheap!

Baseball caps or other American sports stuff (good for boys or girls I would say) like basketball tops, football jerseys. And you don't need to spend a great amount either - Walmart sell those for about $10-12.

Enjoy your stay in London - I wish it were us going!

Thanks Lioncub4 :)

My uncle's kids are grown up and married, in fact, I plan to go bcoz of his kid is having a kid (so he's becoming a grand-dad). So I was thinking more like nice shirts/t-shirts from Express, American eagle, etc. But in lot of cases, things in UK are better than in US so it's hard to tell what will be useful and trendy.

Im not a kid but i do appreciate a box of Hot Tomales. My Fiance got me addicted to them when i visited the States and for the life of me i cant find them in the Uk.

Whenever i fly to see him, he is always waiting Hot Tomales in hand at Dulles airport for me <3

My last trip to America i asked my daughter what she would like bringing back and she said Twinkies :o So i sqweezed a box into my hand luggage for her. Crazy i know! But thats what she wanted.

I went to visit Walmart and got some of the T-Shirts they sell. Funny ones like..

"Internet was down today so decided to come outside"

"You dont need to be crazy to work here, we train you"

"Its all fun and games till the cops show up"

They were all really cheap, under $10 and for a teenage lad with a daft sense of humor..perfect!

Grabbed a few paper back books too for my hooligans. Great, since the space in my suitcase and hand luggage is always limited. So limited, i sit on it to shut ;)

The gifts dont have to be fancy or expensive. Its the thought that counts.

I think the poster meant native american stuff. When my husband's friends visited they bought new football boots (much cheaper here), Abercrombie/american eagle/express stuff, stupid stuff from spencers and food items that they can't get in the UK (ie candy)

But don't buy chocolate. America doesn't DO chocolate. Just sayin'.

I'm the USC fiance, and after tasting Galaxy chocolate, I have to completely agree. Hershey's is like acid in your mouth once you've had the good stuff!!

My fiance took back collectables for his family. They were small and easy to pack, so it worked out well. Something from your home area is always a plus, because it will remind them of you.

Yep, I got it now that I read it 2nd time... my only excuse, it was Monday!!! ;)

It's a neat idea too... I'll look for those stuff, makes a great gift as general and saves me from buying individual thing for everyone in the family... I've 4-5 families to think of..

Yep, thanks Nina for clearing that up - I meant Native American. My father-in-law collects Kachinas (the little 4" ones) and I think they look so different and unusual from your usual mantelpiece decoration. Just an idea.

Hahaha Your suggestions are nice too, I'll consider them for sure. It's nice to see some humor Monday morning :)

That's good one too. Unfortunately, I believe UK has lots of Indian stuff than I've here in Charlotte. It would be actually other-way around (me bringing back some Indian stuff from there ;) ).

Oo, if you're in Charlotte, NC, head south on I-77 just over the South Carolina state line and there's farm stands that sell things like peach chutneys that are fantastic. Also pick yourself up a jug of peach cider while you're at it, it's fabulous but probably won't travel well, being bulky!
