Hello everyone;

My wife has an 11 year old daughter (from a former relationship) who lives with the father back in Colombia. Although he is a good father and provider, my wife and I both fear that this man will probably end up dead from drinking and driving or that his liver will give out sooner or later because of his excessive drinking.

If (God forbid) he were to pass away, my wife would obviously want to bring her daughter to the states immediately (as she would be the only surviving parent). Our question is this. Is there a special visa that would be quickly granted to the child if such a disaster were to occur? Or would she have to wait the normal time frame for a normal visa? By quickly I mean a couple of weeks. Anyone with knowledge or experience in this matter please respond.

It that situation it should be possible to expedite on humanitarian grounds but I don't know that it would be as fast as a few weeks. Depending on how old the child is at the time would be a factor as well. Over the age of 14 she would have to attend an interview, over 16 she would need a police check.

the embassy in Colombia is unpredictable, I have not heard that they give preference to get fast a visa. I even know of cases of people who have to take medical treatment in US and they deny the visa

Interesting, last year we asked for expedited review after my sister dad died, she was 17 at the time. All our paperwork was at the embassy we were denied. Now my mom just has to travel back and forth until we get our interview. Hopefully everything goes well.
