Back in the UK we do politics for 3 weeks every 5 years. That's the length of the election

campaign and everyone complains at how long it is.

The Americans go at it hammer and tongs every day all the time with no break. It's like an obsessive blood sport

Even when I go up to shooting range, it is all they talk about all the time

They just hate each other and it's constant

Are Americans aware that the other countries are not like this and have a life which consists of other things

Its on every blog and every US website and all over the the other topics thread on VJ every single day, every single year.

It's out of control and it's like the Berlin wall right down the center of American society.

Being American is a bloodsport, old man. You know what they say about people who can't take the heat, doncha?

Only in the bloggosphere. I don't think the partisanship by non party member is particularly useful and I do think that politicians in the US are grossly overpaid and inherently corrupt but unless someone starts being honest and reforms the system, the angry politics will remain because it's easier to get elected (and get the position, power, influence and $$$, kaching!) if one rages about immigration and patriotism and grandstanding talking points than try to find pragmatic solutions, so...

I can't speak for all Americans but I would wager a large percentage don't care that other countries don't act the same way.

I don't get involved or even interested in every political issue that comes up but there will always be ones that I am very passionate about.

I personally think it is good that politicians are always on the public's mind.

American politics has been a bloodsport for most of our history. It's worked well, we don't elect Euro-style gheyboys.

We are quite used to it by now. If you're hanging around on a forum where politics are discussed, you may want another forum.

Of course looking for the spirit of brotherhood at a shooting range seems equally weird to me.

Your post reminds me of a Canadian (a political science major)who assured me Americans really want a parliamentary form of government. I was out of the U.S. at the time and asked if there was a recent poll of something. He didn't have anything to back his firm belief.

I've heard so many foreigners who claim to know what's best for America and maybe they have some worthy ideas but they get pissed off when I have some suggestions for their country- the nerve of those Yanks.
