Is this too much thinking?

Hi guys,

As I was walking after lunch, some thinking came to my mind. Maybe it sounds very silly or maybe I just care too much for her. I want her to feel very comfortable when she comes from the Philippines.

Houses there are a bit different the houses here. My idea:

Write a nice manual with pictures and very basic/simple explanation of how things work.

A/C, heater, opening the door to the attic, stove, oven, entertainment system..etc.

I know she can consult the manuals but sometimes those manuals confuse more than helping. Plus she will need to find the right manual.

I like to hear your opinion.

I think thats a very sweet idea. There is a thread in the MENA forum that also discusses how to help your SO to adjust to life here in the US. Some suggestions were tapping coins to paper and writing how much each one is worth, giving them their own key to the house (so they don't feel like a guest), printing maps, saving your home address in case she gets lost while out, and try to decorate or put pictures of her family back home, or something that will make her feel compfortable when she comes so it doesn't feel so strange and different.

Ur idea is pretty good. Go ahead, do it if u believe it will really helps her alot. But remember,filipinas are fast learners. If u think ur fiancee can easily pick up things, then no need to do that. Give her a tour inside the house once she arrives. While doing that, explain her how things works.

yeah,,,zup..don't worry about that...don't too much stress you self about her,i know she is smart about the differences here..mine was same as her when i get here..i dont know howw to use the other staf,but i really quick to learn how to use it..just give her a time and she will be fine ok...GODBLESS TO BOTH OF U....

This is a very thoughtful idea. The answer is what learning style works best for your fiance/asawa. Is she good at reading and following written instructions or by listening?

My wife/asawa is a primarily a Kinesthetic learner. She learns best by watching and doing. This is a combination of Visual and Hands on learning.

I think she'll find your personal instruction more helpful than reading a manual. there have been various threads in the past about things to do to help your wife adjust to life in the USA. here's a recent one...

I thought about the same thing before my wife arrived here. However, we enjoyed talking about the differences rather than relying on written instructions. It was fun to show her everything in the house and in the yard. She is a very fast learner too.

That is a good idea, but if your girl is anything like Mhay, she will want a hands on. Of course there will be things that you will forget to show or tell, so writing them down will help with any questions she has when you are at work.

I will tour her but that will be a basic manual instead of her having to go thru many manuals.

I alreaady made a copy of my house key, mailbox,car, and as soon as she come I am calling american express to get her a card also. But we spoke about the limit on the card. I hope I did not make a bundle.

There are a couple of things at the cabin here that are a little complicated, like cleaning the air filter on the propane water heater. So I post a little card with a diagram and instructions right next to it on the wall. The oil-to-gas mix on chain saws, snow machines, and boat motors is on the refrigerator, with a chart showing how much to add to one gallon or five gallons, etc.

But these are a more complicated than how to use a thermostat or whatever.

I think we love them too much and we like to treat them as our cute little princess. I wonder if they know that ??

It's a lot more fun to go through those things with her She'll catch on very quick and it'll be more fun for her to do it all with you too Just give her the basics, show her once and let it fly!! Just make sure she has free reign over the house (decorating, moving, etc.), tons of different ways to communicate with family and plenty of rice Find a good Asian market close to you if you don't have a Filipino market. Merlaine was amazed at how many things she found from the Phils there. Vietnamese use a lot of the same stuff they do. On a side note, Scott...thanks for the heads-up on Rebtel, it's a lifesaver!!
