Canadian DCFs Waiting for Interview in Montreal

I'm curious about a few things; Do most have a lawyer for this process or are you going it alone like us?

We are going it alone, not sure about others on here. Don't really see how a lawyer would benefit us aside from checking the forms.

My wife is a Canadian citizen by Naturalization, born in India. She wants to acquire her OCI (overseas citizen of India permanent visa) though is concerned that it might somehow affect/reflect on the immigration process. It can wait but there's a convenient office here in T.O

I, the American, have never lived in the US. We are moving there together as I have a job lined up, gonna shack up with fam at first. I'd love to know how others have crossed this bridge of proof of domicile, at least the intent.

As far as the medical in Toronto, any suggestions as to who's better, cheaper, faster, nicer etc...

Thanks everone,

Lew

1) Not sure about the Indian citizenship dealie, sorry. However they shouldn't have any interest in other citizenships, I myself hold British, the only place they even asked about it was in the DS-230 'citizenship - list all'.

2) As for domicile, my husband moved down in April to start his job, so this (hopefully) won't be an issue for us. They can be real sticklers on this point, so having the USC return is the best option, but I'm sure you can still prove intent to re-establish.

3) Unfortunately, your only option for medical in Toronto is Seiden clinic. There are only 4 panel physicians in Canada: Woking in Vancouver, Seiden in Toronto, Seiden and Medisys in Montreal.

We're also doing it ourselves. It's only filling out forms, and you have the best knowledge as to how to populate them.

I'd certainly consider using a lawyer if they could push for an interview date, though. :P;)

Thank god for this forum. It helps so much to hear everyone's story and timeline.

We are going it alone as well. I did contact a lawyer in my hometown in Missouri originally, and he was the one who advised me "unofficially" to go through DCF and how to get the process started and what not.

As far as what we are going to do to prove domicile. We are planning on getting car insurance down there (already talked to my insurance broker), opening a bank account down there, a signed lease from my dad saying we plan on moving in and paying xx amount a month, also we work for a company that also is in the US so we are planning on getting letters from our work down in missouri saying we are both planning on starting work with them as soon as our immigration process is completed, we are also going to get a letter signed from our landlord saying we plan on moving out once the Visa is approved.

We are also considering having me "move" home between the month we get the letter with our interview date and the actual interview date. I dont know if only being a month will actually work. I also dont wanna be without my hubby so that is just a tentative plan.

I have an interview date, Friday 24th September - suits me perfectly!

edit: letter is dated Aug 4, post-mark is Aug 11, arrived Aug 18.

Congrats Superspur! Thank goodness the line is startin to move up! YAY!

dawnlinnet and superspur - have either of you guys been calling DoS to check if an interview date had been scheduled? If so, when was the last time you called?

I called ~3 weeks ago and was told no interview had been scheduled, but all my paperwork had been logged by Montreal.

Yay! We also got an interview date yesterday for September 29th.

My husband and I were kind of shocked and not that excited at first. I think it had taken so long that we had just gotten into the mind set that we'd be here for a while (not that thats bad necessarily). But now we are excited again.

Only problem is....I was reading the other couple (I cant remember what their name is) who's scheduled for the 29th and their dilemma with the medical. My husband and I will be returning from Paris (for a friends wedding) on the 23rd. Its kind of tight in regards to flying out to Montreal and scheduling a medical for my husband. So much to consider.

Are their more than 1 doctor to do the medicals? Any suggestions?

Where in Canada are you? We are in Edmonton and are going to go to Woking Medical in Vancouver for ours. It might be a long way from where you are but they offer same day results.

And CONGRATS!!

Birdnerd... You are almost there!!
