Hi there!

Is there anyone out there in the Vancouver area? I live in Vancouver and used the International Finger Printing (IFS) service to submit my ink prints to the RCMP for my Police check. I've been waiting since May 27. Has anyone else tried a faster approach for obtaining their police record check? I went to 312 Main St. and asked for a fingerprint scan for a police record check and they referred me to the IFS. They seem disorganized and I'm worried that I'm waiting too long for obtaining this record check. Does anyone know the standard wait time? It would be helpful to know how everyone else out here obtained their Canadian police record check.

Thanks for your help!

Do you have a criminal record???? if NO, then you do NOT need fingerprinting, just a normal Canada wide check, which majority of RCMP stations do! Look in the phone book and give them a call. Many local police forces do it as well

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi,

I also went to the office on Main street. If you have no criminal record all you need to do is fill out the form show your ID tell them it is for immigration purposes and you should have the form within 2 weeks max.

The one thing they did was have someone look at my fingertips which seemed weird to me but apparently for immigration they will do that.

Having a fingerprint check done takes a lot longer, and IS NOT NECESSARY if you have no criminal history.

Not one of the better areas of Vancouver for sure, but if you live in Vancouver this is where you need to go.

All the best!good.gif

I didn't need the finger print check. I went to the station on Main St. (and, yeah, it's rough in that part of town) and asked for a "certificate of no conviction" I specified that it was for US immigration, and showed them the guidelines from NVC (which specified that the document has to say that such and such a database has been searched, etc.). They seemed to understand. It took between 1 and 2 weeks to receive the document in the mail. I have heard of other people who've managed to get the same document on the spot, like within 10-15 minutes. It must depend how busy they are.

Good luck.
