Hi everyone,

This is my first post on here, but have been reading the site for the last few weeks.

Anyway my story is that I am getting married to a Thai girl and we are hoping to go to the US in the semi-near future after that. I currently have lived in Thailand for the last 9 months and have been with the girl for the last 6months. After reading for a while on here it seems that of the K-1,K-3, and CR-1the CR-1 is the best visa to apply for and that if I can do it through DCF I might be able to get it much faster. Below are some of the question I have about this process.

1) Applying via DCF requires me to have been a resident for at least the last 6 months does working and living in a country for that long count as being a "resident"? Also what kind of proof do they require?

2) The steps listed under Direct Consular Filing Explained on this website seems a little too easy, I was hoping either someone could give me a more detailed explanation of the steps or give me the link if it is already up somewhere on this site.

3) Thought I saw a post on this site where someone said that when filing DCF in Thailand they won’t accept affidavits of support from a 2nd person. As I currently work in Thailand, I don’t have a job or any other income from the U.S. but my mom is more than happy to fill out the required paperwork to be our sponsor. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this or any related potential problems?

4) Is it likely I’ll come across any problems in the process because me and the future wife have only been together a relatively short period of time. We also will have probably only been married a few weeks when we file the paperwork.

5) This last one might seem a bit silly, but I've been a bit confused about when you specify that you want a CR-1, and not a K-3. Saw a box to check on the I-130 but it says it is for office use only. Or is DCF only for CR-1 visas.

Thanks in advance for the help.

1&2) For DCF in BKK... start here: In a limited number of cases, if the petitioner can demonstrate current residence in Thailand for at least six months, the petition may be filed with the USCIS office in Bangkok. The general inquiry email box for USCIS Bangkok is BKKCIS.Inquiries@dhs.gov.

https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.detail&office=abk&OfficeLocator.office_type=OS&OfficeLocator.statecode=abk

3) BKK is known to not accept co-sponsors

4) If you can demonstrate a bonafide marriage relationship, no issues.

5) DCF is a filing process that results in an immigrant visa (IR/CR)

YMMV
