Hi, My wife entered in K1 visa and we got married 2 weeks back. We applied for SSN for her a week before our wedding and till now (its been 3 weeks) we didn't receive any. We went to SSN office today and they said, it has gone for homeland security check and can't tell how long it will take.

My question is that,

Can we apply for AOS, EAD, AP at this point while waiting for the SSN to come?

or

should we wait for SSN to come and then change her name in SSN and then apply for AOS?

Please let me know. Thank you.

The SS card took about 4 weeks to receive for us. You can apply now for AOS without the SS#. The SS she will receive now will be restricted, I recommend waiting to receive the EAD or GC and then changing her name after wards on the SS card because she will need to adjust her SS # to unrestricted.

Also when applying for AOS use her married name on the forms.

I came here as k3 and they didn't give me SSN until I have the EAD or AOS...that's the new ruling for SS

So pretty much I have to forget about SSN and apply for AOS, EAD and Ap right away and when I receive them, I have to get back to SSN and change the name along with removing restriction. Am I on the right track?

I applied for a SSN last Thursday and they said it will arrive in 1-2 weeks. Now, the name I put on the form is my MARRIED name. I haven't applied for AOS yet. We plan to do that next month since we're still saving up for the fee. Anyway, is that okay? That I used my married name in my SSN?
