Can an OCI vote?

Nope & nor can they hold government jobs. So technically still India doesn't allow dual citizenship.

That's what I thought as well. The word 'citizenship' in OCI is misleading and essentially, a misnomer, here. Thanks for clearing that up.

Not being able to vote - alas, that's a bummer :( But then, look at the candidate pool these days. :no:

Plus with all the poll rigging etc., your one vote is more for your own satisfaction than anything else ...

Have my US Citizenship and OCI since 2007. It has helped me to travel freely and work for the govt.

There are some delays in issuing visas, PIO and OCI due to out come of Mumbai bomb blasts investigation, which is understandable. Hopefully, the process would be streamlined and things would get better.

Down the road say in ten to twenty years an OCI could vote and it would be truly dual citizenship (and might even get a passport)! Say I am an optimist. blush.gif

PS: fyi, If one has an OCI and lives in India for a year. Than they are eligible to apply for Indian citizenship (of course one has to fore go USC).
