Documents for NVC and separate ones for interview?

The DS 230 requires a lot of documents, like police certificates, color photos, etc. After submitting these to the NVC (i.e. I won't have them in my position), do I have to bring the same exact things again to the interview? Request another police certificate, take more photos, etc? This is difficult as it all has to be done in a country I'm not currently in...

They will practically tell you what is necessary paper for the interview. If something is wrong they should write. Generally everyone bring birth certificate, passport, two pics.,marriage certificate... :star:

Generally - if you sent it into NVC, yer done (Certain US Consulates in India use the VFS, VFS require copies of stuff prior to interview day)

There is one exception, and that's the Police Clearance Certificate. That usually has a '1 year validity' to it, so check the issuance date. I'm betting it's still ok for NVC submittal, but ....

If it's past one year by interview day, be sure to get another one. You can make this determination when the interview date is set - is easier to determine all once the interview date is set.

If you check those DS-230 instructions again (on the state.gov portal ) - don't forget - it's the original plus a regular photocopy, submitted to NVC. Most of the original documents are returned on interview day (sometimes must ask for them back) with exception of police clearance certificate.

You'll need those documents later (marriage certificate, birth certificate ) once yer spouse is in the USA, for silly things like opening a bank account, getting state ID and drivers license, and must 'show' them again for any Removal of Conditions processing 2 to 3 years after being in the USA.

Just in case (read all 7 pages ) - DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
