Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to apply for unemployment benefits while being a permanent resident just out of a part time job and with no luck finding a new job.

Can this affect anyhow the immigration process?

just wondering...

Thank you

Unemployment insurance is not a means-tested benefit so doesn't affect your immigration or Affidavit of Support sponsor.

Unemployment is handled by each state, so guessing you are from Texas based on the Dallas/FtWorth in your profile. Here's a starting place for Unemployment Insurance in Texas that you can read to get more information about eligibilty.

I worked in Fort Worth, TX for couple of months but recently moved to California... should I still try to apply for UI in Texas or I could do this from California?

Any advise would be appreciated.

I had a friend who moved here to California from Tennesse, you have to start the process in your home state where you worked at.

The downside of it, it's based on how much money you made, with the cost of living in California being much higher than TN, the unemployment check is barely enough. You'll get your unemployment check in the mail, i don't know how it works for TX but assuming it might be something similar to TN.

Gone but not Forgotten!
