Hi !!!! I am a F-1 student applying for AOS , I just received my EAD card , I was on OPT 2 years ago and Ihave a SS# and on the card it says “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.” Now that I have EAD do I need to go to SS office and update my card or should I wait for Green Card and apply for one without restrictions? Thank you!

If you've received your new EAD based on your AOS, you can go to the local SS office and ask them to update your card.

You can leave your SS card as it is for now. Once GC is granted, visit a local SSA office and update your status.

If you've received your new EAD based on your AOS, you can go to the local SS office and ask them to update your card.

The EAD is not adequate for removing that annotation. They will have to wait for the GC.

Then what's the point of getting that EAD? You can't just work anywhere without an unrestricted SSN. The first one is only valid with DHS authorization. For F-1s that's basically on-campus jobs and OPT. That seems kinda silly but if that's the rule, then I guess, that's the rule.
