Question about Bangladesh postal service

I shipped some forms and things like tax return to my wife in Bangaldesh using USPS Internationl Express Package mailing. It was supposed to arrive in 3 to 5 business days. It's been past that and my wife hasn't received the package. The USPS tracking page shows nothing except that I mailed it on x day.

If anyone ever sent express mail to Bangladesh, did your package ever make to the destination? Does it usually take longer than 5 business days? Should I give up hope now or keep hoping she gets the package?

I paid $62 to mail express. If I had used UPS, FedEX, or DHL, it would've cost $220. Now I am at my wit's end. I don't know what I should do. I called USPS, they said they'll open an inquiry and I might hear something in 15 days.

Also, I know couple of you people are Bangladeshi. How much does it cost to make a passport in Bangladesh.

I'm trying to find all these information online. But looks like not a lot is available from Bangladeshi government. Their website also keeps going down randomly.

I never used USPS. Always Used FedEx though it costs little more. Good luck with finding your docs. Hope your wife will get it soon. My Wife's passport cost 3,800 Taka (Internation). A piece of advice, have your wife's last name same as yours. Also I hope she got her Police Certificate already. It took my wife 3.5 months to get the shitty piece of #######

My wife chose to keep her family name in keeping with our religion and family tradition. Wives in our family never change their name. We haven't had any problem so far. I have an aunt who immigrated to America and had her family name. Never change it to our family name.

I found the Bangladesh Department of Immigration and Passport website. It says with an exchange of 5000BDT, you can get a passport in an hour, which is so unbelievable. Even America cannot manage such swift turnarounds. But I was able to download the new passport form and fill out most of the stuff and I have the fee all set. One less worry.

Now for the bloody police certificate: I haven’t had time to call my wife and explain to her what she needs to do. But it looks like she needs her passport before the PCC. So we’re working on passport now.

Bangladesh DIP website. For future people who may need this.

I used USPS to save some money. Now I regret it. I am hoping maybe, just maybe she'll get the package. I will be very demoralised if this package doesn't arrive at her house.

I had this bloody form filled out for my wife as well :) but guess what ? some morons who works at the passport office claimed this form to be fake :). Tell your wife go to the passport office in person and throw some cash at their hungry mouth. That's all you need. I have heard worst cases in regard to PC. It takes up to 6-8 months to get it. Do not waist any time in regard to PC. May I know where your wife resides in BD? If she lives in Dhaka then you will save 2/3 weeks of time. Other wise, good luck running back & forth between Dhaka - Own City :(

Go to your post office and have them look at the details of the express mail on a postal computer or send it to me in a message and I will check tomorrow when I am at work. The days we get on those are average....customs on either side can delay these papers. The post office has no control once it leave US soil.....I can check tomorrow at work if you send to me in a message....Egypt post sucks as well. My husband sent the papers over a week ago using egypt express mail and NVC still doesnt have it (not even on US soil yet)....so we wait. Let me know if you would like me to check our computer at work for more detail

Good luck

Hello Indigo skies,

Don’t stress too much on your document right now. Few days back my husband sent me a GMAT book and that took me a month to receive that book. Your wife will receive your documents on time. You could have emailed your documents to your wife that is the fastest way to get the documents. Right now, I would suggest you to issue a new passport. Don’t worry that will not take long. I issued my new passport within a day. Before, running for the PCC you need to issue your passport as PCC will copy all the biographic information from your passport. First tell your wife to issue a new passport once you will get your NOA-2 you can apply for PCC cause to issue a PCC will take around 7 days no more than that

Do you work at USPS? I'll go to the local post office during lunch break today. I called the 800-number and all they say is the package was picked up from local post office and that's it. They'll do inquiry and let me know in two weeks.

You give me hope. I'm going to call my wife this weekend and ask her to get a new passport. I filled out the online form and I'll email it to her. She doesn't have a internet; so, she'll have to get the email printed from somewhere.

Are you serious about the PCC taking only 7 days? I am hearing upto 6/8 months. If it's seven days, I can relax a bit more.

Awesome. That gives me some relief. I know I haven't even gotten my NOA2 yet. But I'm starting to proper now. I'm gonna have everything ready by the time I need them. I hope.

Wow and it took a month to get express mail? That sucks. I sent forms which I can resent it if never arrives. But I sent my wife some other things else. I hope she gets it as things I sent have sentimental values to me.

Yes I do work at the post office. I can look at it and see if i see anymore detail than they do. The 800 number are not postal workers and have limited access to the tracking. If you will send to me I will be more than happy to check the details, just to see if there are any.

have a good day

Just a heads up to people. My wife received the package yesterday. So instead of taking 3-5 business days, the package took May a total of 13 days. Not a bad, IMO. But USPS tracking site still says my package was shipped on the 20th and nothing has changed to that status page.

Thanks for offering to check up on my package, bruv.

I just happened to stumble upon this thread and i am facing the very same problem. Is there anybody who can help me out? please.

I sent my fiance a package on 25th of august 2010 to Bangladesh. It left the U.S on 27th of august 2010 but hasn't been received in Bangladesh yet. i called the 1-800 no. but they couldn't provide me any information either. it was supposed to be delivered there in 3-5 business days. An investigation had been started on 31st of august but nothing has come up yet. They told me the same thing that it may take from 6-15 days or even 30 days to find out where it is. I am so disappointed with the USPS service and customer service. Not only can they not give me any information, they are extremely rude above that.

I sent some really important papers along with some gifts and memorable items. Is there anyone at all who can help me out with this. please.

My package eventually made it to the destination in Bangladesh. It took a total of 13 days when it should've only taken a maximum of 5 business days. Since you send your items on the 27-AUG-2010, today is your 13th day. I say give it 'till the end of this week. And remember, because of eid holiday Bangladesh Post is either a lot busier or closed entirely. So it may take way more than it did for me.

I had given up hope on the package. There was no recourse for me to take with any authority. They phoony investigation they start is useless. I never heard back from USPS or anyone.
