so it all worked out.... good

non-story

No, he was released 3 days after law enforcement was presented with official documents proving his status. Law enforcement chose to ignore proof, thus showing the potential liability and abuse that can and will happen in Arizona.

they pay certain taxes, not income taxes however.

Seriously Paul, you're going to have to make a point here. You keep throwing out Red Herring.

Nice Red Herring Paul. That is not the point of the article, and i'll ask you to please get on topic, or GTFO of this thread. I'd expect at least a whimper of an arguement from you.

I'll argue if you want then.

The guy was eventually proven right/released.

It's really that simple.

People will get detained wrongly (guess what - it happens all the time in many different cases, not just immigration ones) and then they are found to be not a part of what's going on, innocent, or their story checks out, etc..

Eventhough situations like this happen, it's not the majority of situations by any means.

Typical extreme points of view (right and left) take an issue and make it 100x bigger than what it really is. - At the end of the day people make bad judgment calls or mistakes. It's life and it happens.

Offer the guy an apology and then work harder to try and make sure you don't make the same mistake again or try and work faster at finding these things out.

Exactly. And this is what Arizona's SB1070 will do, except that it adds pressure to local law enforcement to take action or risk being sued for not enforcing the law. According to SB1070, there is no bail for suspects who are detained. What an ill-conceived law that will trample on people's constitutional rights as citizens.

Why would you release someone you cannot identify?

None the less, it happened, and it will continue to happen in Arizona. And guess what? It's only going to happen to one group of people. I can't imagine that you'd be this calm if you're fiance was put in jail for 3 days pending verification of her status in this country, despite you showing them a green card. Yes, most illegal immigrants in this country are from Mexico. But that shouldn't detract from the rights of those who are here legally.

Paul, I suppose this would have to happen to you personally before you understand what it could potentially do to your life, your job, and your family. For someone who believes in the Constitution and protections it provides to its citizens, you are being myopic.

So I get arrested for something I'm being accused of and I cannot identify myself and they can't immediately prove who I am, then they are just supposed to release me and hope that maybe i'll come back of my own free will eventhough they have nothing to tie me to any one place or other person, etc?

Let's be a little more realistic here.

Also figuring the excessive bail or even denied bail that's constantly issued on bigger cases, I don't see people arguing the 8th amendment there...

None the less, it happened, and it will continue to happen in Arizona all over the country. And guess what? It's only going to happen to one group of people. fixed.

things like this happen all over.

Not everything makes national news.

Not every state has a law that chips away at the rights of a specific group of citizens.....

Actually, it's called Federal Law.

Please don't be so damned ignorant.

i'm not willing to compromise the rights of our citizens to accomplish that.

thats the problem i have w/ your arguement. by doing nothing & not enforcing the laws the rights of far more citizens & legal immigrants are being compromised. until the borders are sealed & serious punitive damages for employers expoiting illegal immigrants are in place & enforced vigorously some people are going to have to be inconvienced. there is no way around it. civil rights violations can and will be addressed as they arise. doing nothing is not working.
