Timing of the Affidavit of Support

My fiancée’s interview is five months from now and by that time I might not be working. Every year I far exceed the poverty guidelines and my savings and 401k are sufficient. Since my current gig might end in a couple of months, I’m trying to take the rest of the year off once it does. But this pesky Affidavit of Support is throwing a monkey wrench in my plans.

How far in advance can info for Affidavit of Support be dated? I was planning on completing everything three months before the interview so it will indicate that I am still employed. Is this too early? If so, I read on VJ somewhere that if the U.S. citizen has reserves of at least 3X the poverty level (or maybe 3X 125% of pov level) that is acceptable. So I am also wondering if anyone on here has really had any luck qualifying without employment and strictly on savings.

My suggestion is that you complete a truthful, qualified affidavit of support as near the interview as practical. Any day you're still employed, even the last day, would meet this goal.

So have you heard of anyone qualifying strictly on savings? Is this common for those who meet the requirement and are not employed?

Sure. You need a minimum of three dollars in liquid assets to replace one dollar of income shortfall.
