DS-230

I am filling out the DS-230...and on PART I of the form...question # 7...it says... "If Dual Nationality Give Both"...now here's the thing...when I filled out G-325A...they asked about Nationality...and I said CANADIAN...and nothing else...

But this is the first time they have asked about dual nationality...

I am a Canadian Citizen...but I have an expired Pakistani Passport...and the last time I traveled to Pakistan...which was this Jan 2010...I used my Canadian passport...and showed my NICOP card to enter Pakistan...NICOP stands for(National Identity Card For Overseas Pakistanis)...

So does that mean I am a dual citizen???...should I say...I have an expired Pakistani Passport that I no longer use...

The only time I have ever used my Pakistani passport...was back in 2006...to enter Pakistan...and ever since then...have not used it...

So should I say Pakistani and Canadian on the form...does it matter??

I don't want to personally write Pakistan...as I don't travel on that passport anymore...

Does it make a difference that my Birth Certificate will be from Pakistan...do they expect me to write I am a Dual Citizen??

I don't want them to unnecessarily create an issue for me...by saying...first officially revoke this and that...I just never used my Pakistani Passport...always made sure my Canadian Passport was a priority for me...

IS there anyone out there...who wrote both...and then went onto not have any issues???

I have dual citizenship with Canada and Italy. My Italian passport expired back in 2006! On the DS-230 I did mention Italy in that box. They never questioned me about it or anything. I brought along my expired Italian passport to the interview, but they never asked for it. That was my experience.

Irrespective of whether your passport is expired or not, you're still a citizen of Pakistan. You need to mention it on the DS230. I understand your qualms about doing so, given that it's Pakistan, but you need to follow a policy of full disclosure when dealing with the DOS.

If I get into an accident, or get robbed, and someone steals my Canadian passport, I'm still a Canadian citizen right? Or if my Canadian passport expires, I'm still a Canadian citizen right? I think the same applies to you. Just because you're passport expired, I assume you are still a Pakistani citizen (unless Pakistani citizens are not allowed to be dual citizens and doing so automatically invalidates your Pakistani citizenship...gosh I hope not) then you are a dual citizen.

Especially since your birth certificate is from Pakistan I would write that you are a dual citizen to prevent any miscommunications or misunderstandings
