Gold Dispensing ATM Launched In The Gulf

3:13am UK, Thursday May 13, 2010

Tom Bonnett, Sky News Online

Abu Dhabi's top hotel has upped the stakes in the contest to have the most glitz in the Gulf by installing an ATM that dispenses gold bars.

The machine at the Emirates Palace monitors the daily price of gold and offers small bars that weight up to 10 grams or coins with customised designs.

Thomas Giessler, the German entrepreneur behind the idea, chose Abu Dhabi because of its high-rolling atmosphere.

Gold to Go, Geissler hopes, will tie in nicely with the region's traditional ties in gold commerce.

The launch was timed well as on the day gold hit a record high of more than $1,245 an ounce.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Will do. We're gonna head over there next time we spend time in Ethiopia. It's a relatively short trip from there.

there is another hotel there that is less expensive ... the rotana beach ... stay in the towers (newer section). lots of good restaurants nearby and also is connected to a mall.

Mall? Not good. That spells trouble on vacation. The mall is one place that my wife and I can't go to together. We've tried a few times and each time neither one of us enjoyed it. If I go to the mall - and I avoid it like the plague - I spend less than 10 minutes. My wife can't make it past the fist shelf in the first store in less than 15 minutes. See the problem?

Do you fly with Emirates there? They are awesome, as is Qatar.

No, I'd fly Ethiopian. It's a good airline - largest and fastest growing airline in Africa. I've flown with them several times from DC to Addis and have no complaints. Whenever Boeing gets that 787 done, that route will be a non-stop flight. They're actually on track joining the Star Alliance. They already code-share with Lufthansa and United.

I thought that Australia would have this before anyone else considering that they are the hub of the first world.

Ah, but what about their GDP..
