Military Training Question

We're a bit confused about questions 15, 16 and 18 on the I-485. They asks if you've been a part of a military organization, or received any training. My wife was a member of Canada's Army Cadets as a teenager. According to the Cadets' website, they say no:

"Cadets are not members of the Canadian Forces, nor are they expected to join the military. Cadets is a great way for youth to learn more about Canada, make new friends and develop life skills that will enable them to succeed no matter what career they choose."

However, she was given firearms and marksmanship training. What is the right way to answer this? Do we say yes, and then try and explain it at the interviews?

Hmmm well you may get your question answered but I'll also follow up. A colleague of mine just retired as the Lt Col of the Rocky Mtn Rangers and he is also very familiar with Cadets etc. I can ask him his thoughts. Probably cadets would not be considered military because of their function - they aren't asked to perfom any military functions for Canada. But I"ll look into it and get back to you, hopefully with a good answer

Ok I checked with my friend...he thinks Cadets would not be considered a military organization. You may to verify that with the immigration powers that be but this guy is a commanding officer and he believes Cadets aren't in a military capacity therefore not a military organization. Again check with USCIS to be sure.

Although military units act as sponsors, for the purposes of the form it is not a military organisation, it would be more accurately described as a youth organisation and not relevant to this section of the form.
