ok just wondering what you guys plan to do on this topic....so we pass the medical and interview....greattt now we are ready to leave (hey it will happen oneday soon right!)

So ive been looking at the plan prices, if we buy a round ticket from the uk to the usa its about half the price of a one way ticket.

Theres going to be my two children and I, not to mention my other half who will be flying in from the usa to the UK for support during the medical and the interview in the uk....then all four of us want to fly back to the USA together afterwards.

So should we buy the round trip tickets and then not use the return flights?? Either that or we buy one way tickets and pay double the amount.....just wondering what you guys reccomend and how some of you have done it before/ plan on doing it when the day arrisses.

Hugs Em x

Hi, i came to the US from the UK in December 2009 and have a return flight booked for June 13th 2010 but i will just not use it.

It is perfectly acceptable to do this, just do not complete the check in (On-Line)

I rang BA to see of i could get any money back and they said that because i already used one part of it, i could not get any money back. :crying:

It was also cheaper for me to do it this way (and for other people also)

I have seen a few posts describing other ways to buy a cheap one way ticket but i have tried it recently and its actually still cheaper to buy return tickets.

BTW: Continental is having a sale on £367 return flights (with restrictions)

Good luck.

Shane

well thank you very much for that advice. As you understand yourself, theres so much more cost to buying a one way ticket, its crazy. Esp as theres afew of us. I think we will definatly do as you have then...makes alot more sense money wise.

We arent near that point yet to be able to book tickets as we are still waiting on our NOA2 which we pray for any day now. But like I said, we will def book round trips now.

Stay happy and safe, hugs Em x

If you have a mileage plan like I do with American Airlines you and buy a one way award ticket. I might even buy more miles to get my fiancee's son her later this year less than a aone way or round trip ticket.

If you book round trips some airlines will let you book return trip 11 months out. And you may be able to use it for a return visit 11 months down the road it may not go to waste. I will be booking RT for us to insure we make houston POE our final destination. It will however end up being a bit less expensive for the tickets. But the cost of extra luggage im sure will match the cost of the one way ticket  looks like i will be packing very light and taking empty bags from here to there. From Ukraine 1 cary on 1 checked = free. 1st extra cary on and checked 50 euro each next checked bag goes to 100 euro each  Tried to get her to fedex bulk of personal effects but she aint havin it :bonk:

I assume you made a few trips to the UK already.. have you been saving your miles? some airlines will let you request credit for less then 1 year old tickets..

american airlines one way international is only 20,000 miles.. that might be only 2 trips to the uk..

when i get married we will be flying from chile to hawaii then to new orleans.... a oneway ticket is over $3000.. but will only cost me 42,500 miles. i earned just enought points from a few trips with work(no cost to me).. and 2 trips to chile (about $1900)..

another option is get a credit card that gives you miles.. they all give you 25,000-35,000.. but the time frame may not work out..

consider check bag fees when choosing a airline.. AA i think (call or look up) gives you one free bag to europe and $50 for the second.. that means you can have 4 return bag free(you, 2 kids, and your lady).. if you were a gold member.. you would get 2 bags free.. that would be 8 bags... big difference when someone is moving to another country..
