I've been to the Outerbanks... LOVE IT. Siesta Keys sounds like what we'd want too. We're likely getting married at the mid to end of summer, as late as early fall if all goes according to plan. So middle of hurricane season haha that's my main concern about FL. It'll still be warm all over the country though leaving plenty of options.

I love, love love the outer banks.

I have been there a couple of times and we are still considering having a proper honeymoon since we will most definitely be left with less money after this whole process and the move, but we wanted to go away for a mini weekend getaway and we will be living in NC ,so hell yeah!

But I would love to plan a proper one later :)

Loving this thread,so many ideas!

We are going for 5 days to Siesta Keys this May. We are renting a small condo with a private walk way to the beach. The area we are in is near by a small shopping center, so we will be cooking most of the time. The entire trip plus the flight to Baltimore probably cost about 350 per person (I think it's even less, I booked the trip in my hubby's expedia account so cant check). That is one cheap, cheap, cheap vacation. I really wish we can stay longer, but I teach the whole summer through the fall, so no real vacation time. And the week that I can go falls right before Memorial Day weekend, so staying for those 5 days into the weekend bumps the price a lot! But Im excited :)

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Green card received: March 18, 2011

GC Expiration: March 11, 2012

Documents sent: December 13, 2011

NOA-1 received: December 15, 2011

Biometrics: January 25, 2012

Letter approving 10-year GC: September 7, 2012

Production of 10-year GC: September 15, 2012

I just want to get away camping for a few days, but it's still too chilly here for it to be comfortable at night.

After Yvonne finishes moving in two weeks, we're taking an extended weekend to fly from Rochester to San Diego for a few days, including some beach lounging, then driving up the coast to LA for some shopping and then flying back from LA to Rochester. Pauley's leaving the Eastern time zone for the first time. :P

No where yet per se. We do go to OBX 2 or 3 times a year since it is only 1.5 hours away it is perfect (friend owns a place there, so really cheap lol). We are talking about a trip this year for Honeymoon, might have to look at Sierra Keys. Although Vegas has come up, but I just know hubby will take away all my credit and debit cards so might not be as fun it sounds lol.

Hawaii is a US state, you can go. Also, I believe you can go to any of the territories..Guam, Puerto Rico..US virgin islands..As long as they fly the stars and stripes there, you can go with your greencard.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

My fiance' has booked us a two night stay in a bed and breakfast near our ceremony site. Third floor overlooking a lake with a jacuzzi. Not sure if or when we might take "more of a honeymoon" since mid-July is prime vacation time. We may go up to Northern Michigan. I just told my fiance' I would like a week away from my current home town. We will see how the finances go.

LeslienScott, did you pick your wedding date because it goes 10, 11, 12?

Hawaii would def be soooo nice too. We are planning to go to Australia for a month when he's out of the Army so will be saving for that. We just want a nice beach week getaway to be romantic and lovey and all that stuff that makes people wanna barf. However we are keeping our eyes peeled for deals to Hawaii or Puerto Rico... are K-1 holders allowed to go to the US Virgin Islands? I wouldn't think so but my fiance says 'duh, it's called US'....... gotta love him. I never thought about it before, anyone else know? Just seems risky to leave the mainland in case something happens and a flight get's diverted and BOOM immigration issues getting back in.

(and I just read the above post by coraliesoms, so edit.... but if anyone can confirm that would be nice too)

lilacvioletiris, my fiance is from MI and has shown me so many pics of places to go there, look beautiful... however I remember a while ago when we were planning a vacation for his leave (which he never got) we were looking at Northern MI and it was the same price to go more south in the US (but be on the ocean and tropical). Wasn't all that cheap. Unless you don't live too far then you can save on gas =) which is a big selling point.

I think that was my fiance's main idea: save on driving time to get there, extra hotel room for a night on the road, and save on gas. As he has been looking at the prices, we have seen that they truly aren't that different price wise, sadly. But somewhere other than where we will call home would be nice for a bit of time away.

We did the crazy Disneyworld thing!! It was actually fantastic and we both loved it. We're both silly kids at heart, so it was something that matches our personality rather well. We walked around the whole time in bride and groom hats and wore "just married" pins. People would constantly yell congratulations as we walked by, or come up to us and say it personally. We also stayed at a Hilton resort outside of the park, so we mixed the Disney fun with a more grown up relaxing time as well. It's not for everyone, but we had a great time.
