Before I left the UK I made sure I got six months supply of my contraceptive pill. I am now down to my last month and panniking! I still dont have any medical insurance and dont know what to do now. I have researched planned parenthood online and it looks like you have to pay for contraception, it looks pretty expensive too! Just wanted to know what all the ladies did? If you have insurance does it cover you for this and if I took out insurance now would it cover me? If you dont have insurance what did you do and how much did it cost? Also, I understand planned parenthood is subsidised, will this have any implications on me not becoming a 'public charge' in the US?

Thanks!

P.S - Absinence is not an option!

Planned Parenthood charges based on a sliding scale; that is, you pay what you can afford. Their examinations are performed by actual gynecologists and they generally have a range of contraceptive choices available.

They will be your best bet, believe me. And no, it will not count against you as being a "public charge"; Planned Parenthood is not a government agency.

The bc situation here in the States sucks!!! Insurance sucks too!

There are these things that also suck called condoms.... they work... (if you use them!)

Good luck!

And remember, "pull and pray," although usually effective, isn't an actual form of bc.

Hahahahaahahaha!!!!!!

Seriously though....does anybody's health care provider pay for birth control pills? I'm way past that age now, but when I last needed them (many moons ago) most prescription plans didn't cover them.

I think I was paying around $27 per monthly pack back then. Dark ages probably.

I just worked it out.... it would be cheeper to get a cheap flight to UK and collect 6 months worth of pill from the family planning clinic than to pay for 6 months here in the states and you get to see home at the same time.....

Kezzie

Dang. How much does the pill cost now?

It USED to be cheaper than 4 years of college...........................

OUCH!!!!!!

I guess condoms are the way to go until insurance companies start covering bc at a lower rate. Planned Parenthood is the most affordable way to go.

If you want to get really scientific..... count the days, and use super extra protection during "critical" days.
