I've been searching VJ and googling for untold amounts of information on the DS-3032 (as the NVC recording says its on the way) but I just can't get a straight answer...

Quick rundown on my Immigration Process:

Mums Location: Colorado, US

My Location: Gold Coast, Australia

My Mum petitioned (I-130) for me (unmarried son over 21 - not sure of Immi Visa "name") receipt dated March, 2005.

Received NOA2 dated March, 2009.

AOS ($70) has been paid as of April, 2010.

Mum has mailed I-864 to the NVC and apparently the DS-3032 is on its way to me.

The question bugging me is:

On VJ and MOST immigration discussions/forums, for some reason the beneficiary nominates the petitioner as the Agent.

When I'm doing my DS3032, is there a benefit to me (in Aus) putting my mother (in the US) as the agent? Or do I just leave myself appointed as the agent?

I'm so confused and would like to just send off the email to NVC, so thanks in advance!

Most people appoint the USC as the agent. It's upto you really.

No need to wait for the form to be mailed to you.

Email your Choice of Agent NOW from your email address. Follow the VJ template.

I know that most people appoint the USC as the agent, but is there a a reason why they do that?

Meh, it's easier for them to mail the stuff in, pay the bills etc.

Doesn't matter really. I appointed my USC husband as the agent, however I paid one bill and he paid the other. I mailed my husband the DS230 packet as soon as we got our NOA2--he sent it in as soon as the IV bill cleared.

NVC prefers mailing stuff to the US whereas overseas mail could get lost.

It doesn't matter though 'cause you DON'T want to be waiting for NVC to mail you anything. It could take months.

Find the NVC shortcuts and have a read, ya? Also join the April 2010 NVC thread, ya?

I agree with sachinky, I think the reason is that it's easier and quicker to send things from the US. Mail in the US can be tracked and usually only takes a few days.

I also think that those of us who are the petitioner like to have everything coming from one central place as much as possible. Less chaos.

Just starting the journey, haven't yet filed... Until today(2/12/07)!
