Hi,

My wife is going for her CR-1 visa interview on May 6, 2010 at New Delhi embassy. Her passport was issued when she was unmarried and does not have my name on it. She has not changed her last name after marriage.

Do CO will question about it and put her in AP for not having updated biographic information on her passport?

We are so stressed about it because we do not have enough time to go to passport office and have it corrected because just few days left for interview.

Anyone dealing similar issue please give your input "what we need to do."

Thanks in advance.

she need to update her biographic information on her passport...if you file your I-130 with her married name then its supposed to be the same with the passport... passport update can be done in a week so try to go to passport office and ask them how can you update her passport as soon as possible...you can make it!!

If she's retained her maiden name and you're simply talking about the addition of "spouse's name" on the Indian passport, she'll be fine. If it comes up, just explain that you were worried about the time constraints.

I too didn't change my last name after marriage. We didn't want to wait around to have my husband's name added to my passport page. I wasn't sure how long it would take them to issue a new passport and we wanted to get started on the paper work right away.

No biggie.

Good luck on your interview!!

Hi Sachinky,

Yesterday a freind of mine told me that his wife was asked to add his name on her passport. They were dealing with Bombay consulate and it was in 2008. It was easy for them and took 3 weeks because her passport was issued when all indian passport offices were using hand writing.

I am very worried, she is going tomorrow to passport office, if they can do some favour to us and add my name without delaying a lot.

Thanks.

You still have time to add your name on it. Try tatkal and It can be done in 3-4 days. I renewed my passport and added my wife's name. They sent me new passport in 4 days.

Hmm, I called and they said it would take nearly 20-25 days at the very least.

The last page is a laminated page -- how would they just add it in handwriting? Do you mean that they add it on some other page? For example, my date of expiry is incorrect on the biographic page--they just added a notation on another page.

VisaPro--Did they issue you a new passport? Or did you get to keep your old one?

Conner--What kind of issues did your friend have? I saw that someone was questioned about it during his interview last week but I doubt that they are going to give you any trouble for it. As long as you can explain it, you should be fine.

If you doing regular processing, it takes around a month.

If you apply by tatkal, it takes 3-4 days.

They add Notation on another page, If your address is incorrect, or you want to add/change name, they just write a notation.

If your passport is about to expire,or your picture need to change, then you renew your passport and they give you new passport.

When they issue you a new passport, they return your old one with it. Some time you need old passport too. Lets say you travel from USA to India, and then renew your passport in India. When coming back, airline and IO wants to see your old passport, so they can check when did you travel last. That happened to me, 2 years ago.

They issue me new passport when I renewed and added my wife's name. It took me 4 days to get new one.

My wife added my name last year, they added my name, changed her last name, change address, on 2nd or 3rd page and stamped it.

I spoke to another agent this morning. He said it could be done in 7 days. However, both my PCCs are issued against this current passport. And he also said, that I would be issued a new updated passport which would render the passport clearance stamped in my current passport as effectively cancelled.

Aw, fuggit. I'm just going to take a chance with this. I doubt it's a big deal.

Not worth the hassle. You will be fine good.gif . You could always add your husbands name later in your passport from an Indian consulate in US if you really want to. I don't think this will be an issue at the interview with the amount of evidance you are bringing in smile.gif

Thankyou!

I have retained my maiden name post-marriage so it's not an issue with that. It's definitely not a requirement. Indian passports have a biographic data page with parent's name, spouse's name, permanent address listed on it. Since my passport was issued when I was ten, obviously the spouse's name is left blank. THAT is what I'm worried about. I didn't think to update it earlier and now it's cutting it too close to the interview.

Thanks, Vivek. I hope so too. I don't want to particularly go running around the passport office in this friggin' heat. Plus, I'm thinking the kitchen sink at the interview ought to do it!

That's the plan. To get it updated later from Chicago. My picture is kinda old (taken when I was 13) as well -- I will get all of that updated once this visa stuff is done and over with.

My wife got my name added to her Passport office in two days (Monday submission and Tuesday after 5 PM pick up). She had to submit form 2 and fee.

I think she got it quick because they already had her the CID check on file when she had applied for PCC.

SachinKy it better to talk to someone from Passport office not the agents. I think its a plus if you have your Hubby name added.

But for you since have so much supporting documents you should be OK, and by seeing all these replies here on this website; I think you have very good understanding of Immigration process and you will able to explain them easily.

Good luck.

Hey Conner,

Did your wife get a new passport? Or did they make a notation on the old one only?
