You cannot get a US passport if you are not a US citizen, So Im assuming you would take your canadian one.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

You can apply for one....through mail

http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/goc/passport.shtml

I'm assuming you came to the US without one or do you have an expired one?

You may not even have an interview during the AOS process anyway....I don't think you have to have a passport persay...but someone else will know better then me

Unless you used your passport to enter US you don't need it for interview. You will just need some other government issued ID.

You would be applying for Canadian passport, because you are not American citizen therefore you are not eligible for American passport.

I don't think you can get an expedited passport because you would be applying for it from here. Applying from US it would take 4 weeks to process.

you can read about it here:

Reading from other posts, in my understanding, they don't stamp passports anymore (unless you specifically request it) because once approved you receive your GC quite fast. I wouldn't worry about it.

I also think that you cannot get an expedited service if you apply for the passport from outside Canada. But may be wrong :D

Nats6624-Lol..When I read your topic title..I couldn't help but think...

"That's a question that I should be asking....Canadian or American passport...", be it that I'm a citizen of both countries....Right now I have a Canadian one...Still debating about the American one...

Though in your case...You need to be an American citizen to get an American passport...So right now, you just have the Canadian passport to worry about....

(looking at your timeline)...I can see that you are going through the AOS process..And after that process, you will get a US permanent resident green card. And after 3 or 5 years..Then you can apply for US citizenship and get a US passport....

I see too, that you came here in 2006, which was before the passport rules went into effect for cross-border travel...

Do you have an expired Canadian passport, by any chance? Having an expired passport is better than not having a passport at all...As for applying for a new one..You might want to do that, for travel purposes, as nowadays passports are needed....

For the AOS interview...They might put an I-551 stamp in your valid passport if you ask for such, which is supposed to act like a temporary green card, while you are waiting for your actual green card/I-551 to arrive in the mail a few weeks later....They might also ask about your travels too...So having a passport is handy on that note too....

Alternatively, you can also renew your Canadian passport in-person at a Passport Canada office. You can do after your AOS is approved and you can travel between Canada and the USA with your new US green card. Or you can do so before, if you have the AP (advance parole) travel document while your AOS case is pending. You cannot leave the USA without the green card and/or ap...When applying in-person, it takes about 2-4 weeks for your Canadian passport to be sent back to the USA...

Nevertheless, a valid passport is not required for the AOS (or any other) immigration stages. As long as you have some sort of government-issued identification (driver's license, ID card, etc.), then that is good enough....

Hope this helps too. Good luck on your journey.
