Hi guys i need a favor can someone post a phone number that i can call to talk to someone in regards to the following question, i have been getting different answers from different people.

Here is the question

My wife is from Costa Rica she arrived on December 29, 2009 we got legally married by the courts and church already, she also has her social security card (under her maiden name). My question is when filling out the forms i need to send out for the AOS which name do i use, her Madien name or my last name (she wants my last name).

The people in the social security office and the city hall old me to send her papers with my last name and that once AOS sees the marriage certificate they will change it to my last name. Does this sound correct???

Thanks in advance for any help

They will NOT change it automatically. Fill the forms out in her current legal name that you want on the greencard. Her previous name is listed as such on the form. When the greencard comes in the new name then you can go to the SSA and change her card.

YMMV

The name you use on the AOS (and related) forms is the name they will issue the PR/Green Card in. If you guys want to use the married name, that's fine - use it.

Once the PR/Green Card is issued - you guys can return to the SSA to obtain a new card in the new name (and without the annotation "Not Valid for Work Without DHS Authorization").
