Hi guys,

just wondering, my Taiwanese fiancee is being asked to get police records and birth certificates for the interview. My question is, do these documents need to be translated into English, or is the Taiwanese version OK? Hoping that someone knows the answer. I may have overlooked it in the packet, but I really couldn't find it. It just says to get them. Thank you.

Read carefully through the packet instructions. In our packet 4 instructions (Vietnam) there was a statement that read as follows. (For our instructions this was in the third paragraph).

All documents not in English or Vietnamese must be accompanied by certified translations, which include a statement by the translator stating “Translation is accurate” and “Translator is competent to translate”. In

some special cases, you may be requested to submit translations for Vietnamese documents.

For the consulate in Vietnam we did not have anything translated and had no problems. However I would recommend that you check with others who have gone through the consulate in Taiwan.

It certainly cannot hurt if you chose to have them translated as you may need certain documents translated when you do further processing in the US.
