Co-sponsors 2010 tax return

I'm in desperate need of some advice regarding the interview process and when or if they ask you for your sponsor and co-sponsor's latest tax return.

The problem is that my husband and our co-sponsor live in California and as everyone knows were hit very hard last year with the recession. My sponsor went from making $300,000 a year to maybe $30,000 last year. I don't know what to do because I'm afraid we'll be denied as we don't have enough financial support.

Can anyone give me some advice as to what to do and whether they take into consideration the recession and poverty guidelines?

I'm really very worried:(

They'll consider whether the information presented indicates the sponsor qualifies. They don't care if income went down, as long as it's enough to qualify. Most folks are about a year from filing a 2010 tax return and many have two more weeks to file for 2009.

I mean, If it's just the two of you (no kids) you should be golden. They're not really paying attention to trends in income as much as the income itself. I think if his income went down because of the recession, it would actually be a good thing because it shows that in the future, when the economy picks back up, he could potentially make a lot of money, and he'll be able to support you. I mean, if you feel super-worried about it, you could always get a co-signer for the I-864. Just remember... that I-864 is some evilly binding stuff. Make sure you know your spouse and know what you're getting involved in.
