how hard or EASy it would be to change to my married name after i move to usa

i was told by NVC not to change to my married until later due to the reason that the last name filed for i130 must match my canadian passport

now i am worried i might not be able to change to my married name after i move to usa

worried

if anyone has info on this please send my way

thank you

You can change your name when you move to the U.S. if you want. I don't know if there is a change of form name for your GC that you can fill in, immediately upon arrival, but if so, you'd best do that, as your GC is going to come in your maiden name (if that's what's on your passport). To change a name, after a card has been issued, will cost approximately $350.00.

Hi everyone :)

I'm in the process of getting my K3 visa and have an interview on April 14.

In regards to the name change - on my marriage certificate I put that I was changing my maiden name. When I filed for the I-130 I put down my married name and then all of the correspondence from NVC was addressed in my maiden name. I didn't bother changing my name to any of my Canadian documents and am wondering if I'm going to have a problem at the Consulate and moving forward?!

Thanks!

Hi, from my experience, both NVC and embassy told me that they will refer to our names in passport. What I did, I changed my passport to my married name and embassy issued my visa under my married name (exactly like my passport).

Good luck!

My wife has an her indian passport with her maiden name. She wants to change her indian passport now to reflect her married name.

Wont cause any issues since all the paperwork i did was for her maiden name....? Well, just for the I-130 that is.

Blah.
