Reasons why N400 should go or have e-filling option.

1. Paper reduction (you have to bring originals evidence at the interview anyways and sign part 13 and 14).

2. Reduces misfiling or file early, document lost, and etc…

3. Reduces typos

4. Saves trees (go green)

5. Assurance to petitioner that the case got received (get NOA faster).

6. Saves petitioner USPS, FEDEX fees.

7. Able to pay by plastics since not everybody has cash.

What do you guys think?

5. You can send in G1145 with the form and they notify you over text message and/or email on receipt of your application.

7. Start saving ahead of time and you'll come up with the fee necessary for filing by the time you send it in.

You're forgetting about the need to provide copies of green card (front and back), copies of other evidence that establishes you are eligible to file when you submit the paper application. They're not going to be waiting for the interview to make sure you are indeed eligible to file.

Nah, paper application is fine with me.

I like the idea, and I think they should implement it. There are some issues just like milimelo mentioned regarding the photocopy of the GC, but they bloody have a copy of it. For example, if we lose the card, we will request a new copy - they don't need to see how it looks like to reissue it?

I agree but with your A# they should be able to see your eligility or history. When you go to the interview most IO havent even read your file anyways.

No real argument, except that the N-400 probably wouldn't be first on my list of forms the USCIS should handle via computer. They ought to computerize virtually all of their transactions. For one first little baby step, they ought to allow you to submit passport-style pictures (for visas, G-325 forms, passports, naturalization certificates) electronically as .jpg files.

They ought to completely omit the requirement that you send in a copy of your green card for the N-400, since they're the ones who issued it to you anyway, they should just keep a record of what's on it.

But the N-400 has so many optional additional evidence things (read the checklist in the M-476), many of which are going to be paper records. I don't see e-filing coming any time soon.

If they ever DO allow e-filing, watch them charge an extra fee, maybe $100.00, in order to give you the privilege of saving them the trouble of handling paper and of doing the data entry.
