that in bold is strictly your opinion.

i humbly suggest that one stay out of areas prone to gang violence. however, given that honest people live in those areas, what's your suggestion to them?

a 12 gauge does the same thing, but i was referring to the average one trigger pull = one bullet launched.

What is shown to work is programs targeting the reintegration of gang members into ordinary society particularly if these programs consult ex gang members as to the best means to achieve that end. Interestingly what is not demanded by the law abiding folks is personal firearms, ammunition and training to kill the gang members should they start a shootout in the neighbourhood. I wonder why?

In doing so, you impact negatively the actual safety of those in society simply in order for you to feel safer as an individual. Classy.

what utter claptrap. i've had quite a collection of firearms and they've yet to impact society negatively, unless you consider them being a dust magnet and requiring cleaning to be a negative impact.

and last time i checked, law abiding folks are not required to arm everyone and their brother. or did i miss some obscure part of the constitution that you found?

and there you have it, folks - in bold.

they may well have a knife here in the usa too. however, nothing says i have to play fair/on the same scale as they do.

Yes in bold society in the UK is simply less violent than in the US, well done.

No one living a law abiding life in a gang prone are finds solace in gun ownership. From what I can tell, very few do own guns despite living in areas that are actually the most violent in US society. Do you imagine that is simply because they can not afford it?

Are the roads more or less safe with a few million extra cars on them?

so where is the citation to your earlier statement?

and how can you tell if they didn't own guns because they couldn't afford it - did you conduct a poll asking residents in that type of area about it?

Are the roads more or less safe with a few million extra cars on them?

is driving a constitutional right?

I did not say that was the reason. I asked you why so few law abiding citizens in the most violent areas of US society own guns and why gang violence is seemingly never prevented by law abiding, gun owning citizens.

What does that have to do with what I said?

Context Charles, do try to stick with it ;)

I am trying to suggest that the presence of large numbers of guns has resulted in a society that is more violent and less safe. That, BTW - is my take on the subject.

a good defense has many layers, steven. what do you plan to do if they get past all of those layers, entertain the burglars with pole dancing?

The risk of harm where I currently live is so low, that the risk of harm I'd bring to my household and family by purchasing a gun is not worth it, IMO. I've though it over for awhile now. I'd still like to get one someday, but perhaps when my children are older.

nothing says i have to play fair/on the same scale as they do.

Considering that the criminals aren't playing fair at all (they are criminals seeking to commit a crime against me, after all) I see no reason to play fair with them on any scale.

That is a typical bullshit feel good tangent. It has nothing to do with whether you run more risk of getting shot in a society where guns are well regulated or in a society where they are not.
