sorry you feel a little defensive because of a mix-up in terms that was brought to your attention.

a bounty hunter (bail enforcement agent, fugitive recovery agent, and bail fugitive investigator) works for a bail bondsman ... this is not a"pursuit of justice" profession. it's all about $$...

note: in TX, a peace officer can also be bounty hunter (nothing like profiting from your day job  )

Defensive? What's to defend? You are being pedantic and yet you think you are making some kind of a point. You are not so there is nothing to respond to.

just trying to share information/educate to help you understand that bounty hunters aren't out in "pursuit of justice" ... oh well ....

Oh, good grief. I KNOW THEY ARE NOT.

Now, do you have a point or not?

MC, what the hell is your point, beyond instigating a flame war?

I am not the one making pedantic points for the sake of it.

Hey, is this your way of 'making up' with Natty? Good man yourself.

Whatever points you were making, you've already made. Now, you're just being petty.

Where that to be true, so what? Are you the message board policeman now? I thought your organizational powers merely extended to an ability to move threads around, not dictate what the content of them should be.

Charles, if someone is telling you that are in imminent danger of being robbed, raped and/or murdered and that you need to buy a gun in order to prevent what is otherwise sure to happen if you don't buy one, they are using the fear of crime to persuade to you change your behavior.

That is fearmongering. That's not my "take" on it, its just what it is.

if it's not your take on it, then who's take is it?

fwiw, everyone has a danger of being "robbed, raped and/or murdered" anyways. how big that percentage is depends on many variables. what action one uses to address that chance is up to the individual. as for myself, i'll take .40 s&w for my solution.

The thing is Charles, again, there is crime in society, no one is denying that and it is true that some areas are sadly more prone to criminal activity than others, but even then, if you have to be in an area that is prone to criminal activity, the chances that you will be involved in a crime where the possession of a gun is of some use is virtually nil. If for example I wander into an area that is prone to gang violence by accident, my chances of getting randomly shot increase, but my chances of knowing that I am going to be shot and will get the opportunity to shoot first are practically zero.

that in bold is strictly your opinion.

i humbly suggest that one stay out of areas prone to gang violence. however, given that honest people live in those areas, what's your suggestion to them?

depends on your gear. i have a kommando that will run a controllable spray pattern if operated correctly. 30 rounds in a horizontal line in less than 2.5 seconds will give me a very high hit probablility.

a 12 gauge does the same thing, but i was referring to the average one trigger pull = one bullet launched.

I doubt it, in my opinion I was robbed by punk youths, based on the profile of most of the idiots that carried out these types of crimes in the area I lived in. In America, these punk youths would have guns, in the UK, they might have a knife but not necessarily, a lot of crime is carried out by totally unarmed people partly because they know they will not encounter homeowners with guns. The police in the UK are not routinely armed, and they manage to arrest people just fine.

and there you have it, folks - in bold.

they may well have a knife here in the usa too. however, nothing says i have to play fair/on the same scale as they do.

Which is what I've been saying all along - that there are measures a homeowner can take to defend themselves from intruders which are more effective than owning a gun. They are the first lines of defense, while a gun would be the last line of defense.

a good defense has many layers, steven. what do you plan to do if they get past all of those layers, entertain the burglars with pole dancing?

Do you also believe that having a gigantic horse ####### makes a man good at sex?

according to eric, yes.

I'm talking about the argument that has been aired here many times in the past that if I don't own a gun then it is a certainty that I will be victimized by violent criminals.

That is #######.
