According to UPS tracking, the USCIS received the AOS package on Tuesday March 9th which was 6 days ago. Still no NOA1 in the mail yet but I would have at least expected the cash would have been checked now. Is this unsual? Since I sent it via UPS I sent it to the Dearborn address in Chicago.

Since you have a confirmed delivery you know they got it. While many people get the NOA fairly quickly, it is still not unusual to get it two or three weeks later as well. If you haven't received anything official 30 days after it was received then you can contact USCIS either by calling the information line or by making an infopass appointment. They can use your A number to check the status of your file. Hopefully you will receive something very soon.

If it helps, I know for one of my various applications the cheque wasn't cashed until 10 days after it was received.

Did you include G-1145 in your package?
