Hello

My wife became a citizen on 2/24/2010 in Baltimore, MD. She had the same day oath ceremony. The whole process from sending N-400 to oath ceremony took 2 months 2 weeks. Her oath ceremony was at 3 o'clock with her interview being at 9:40 am. Her interview took less than 10 minutes.

If you have any questions let me know

Hi bradam2001,

Just wanna know what are the things they asked from your wife during her oath? Did they ask to see her passport?

By the way, do you have any idea where can I apply for a US passport? thanks :)

At the nearest USPS Post Office (most of them, unless they are pretty small) and in many cases also at your city hall or county court house. You might also have a national passport office close to you considering you live in Baltimore from what I have understood. http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/

If you are told you passed your interview, perfectly acceptable to ask your IO the details about your oath ceremony, when, and even how long the wait, some have even requested a same day oath if your field office does that. Do not understand why the some odd 81 field offices do not follow the same protocol.

And it's my understanding from talking with the immigration specialist at my senators' office that final approval of your application and the generation of the US certificate is done right at your field office, it's not sent off somewhere like your green card was. But who knows, this can also vary by state.

DOS site tells you exactly how to apply for a US passport, link was already given, some 9,100 local offices but only a dozen full service centers for same day service. And yes, the DOS wants to see your original certificate not even trusting their 9,100 local agents so will be subject to the mails. More stress until you get it back.

Sorry for the late response. IO did not ask any documents, as my wife told me. IO did not want to see passport. She just wanted to see my wife's ID . No questions about travels or etc. Her interview was less than 10 minutes. My wife applied for U.S passport on 02/26 via routine service and received her passport and certificate at the same day in 2 separate envelopes on 3/21/2010. She also went to SSA to change her status on 2/26, and she received her new SS Card in two weeks. Where do you live in MD?

Hope this helps

How did she apply for that routine service? Where is that at?...pardon my innocence, lol. I live in Carroll County. My husband works with the SSA so no problem for that :).

When you go and apply for your passport , they ask you if you want the routine service( takes between 4-6 weeks) or expedited which is faster and you pay $65 extra for that expedited service. Just go to any post office with a sign that says passport applications accepted , fill out the form , show your ID and your naturalization certificate ( they keep your original cert.) along with money order and 2 passport pictures ,that should be it.

Good Luck,

Bradam

Wouldn't that actually be illegal, since many countries (UK and Canada among them) do not recognise US Naturalisation Oath as fulfilling conditions for renunciation of (their) citizenship?

My own naturalisation in 2004/5 took a shade under 6 months (I sent app on 2004/10/15 to VSC, then got approval in March 2005--but due to lateness, could not take oath that day--and oath 2005/04/25 at Hopkins Plaza).
