Getting married in Vegas

Our wedding is fast approaching.. I am pretty sure most of the girls in VJ are experiencing the same feeling I have this very moment. It's sad that my immediate family couldn't make it to our wedding but with the support of my fiance's family everything is going well so far. Thanks to the technology now a days, my family can watch our wedding LIVE through online streaming. Due to some constraints - Seattle being far from Vegas, lack of time, etc.. - only the 4 of us (Fiance and Me, his mom and dad) will be attending the wedding. I find it weird that only two people are attending considering the kind of wedding traditions we Filipinos have where the least number of guests are usually around 50 -100.. but oh well what more can I expect? We are only given 90 days to prepare... My fiance assured me that we will have another wedding in the Philippines once I get my papers. Guess, I'll have to freeze my wedding fantasies for now.

So guys... care to share how your weddings were like? (to those who arrived in the US through Fiance Visa and were married here) How did it went considering the limited amount of time? How about the guests? What were the traditions you practiced? aside from Something New, SOmething old, Something borrowed and something blue.

Thanks guys.

Hey Congratulations!

We will also be having a Vegas wedding! Wilma's auntie lives in Vegas and has offered to host the wedding at her home there. We also plan the Skype the wedding back Wilma's mom in PH. Vegas is really a cool place and has lots to see besides the Casinos. Be sure to go check out the Hoover Dam as well. Our only problem is that Wilma's auntie wants to have an Elvis Wedding!! I thought he was dead....:help::o

First of all, Congratulations and Best Wishes!!! You're right, it was kinda sad for us 'coz my parents weren't there but we're also planning to have a simple wedding in the Philippines. We had our wedding ceremony in San Francisco City Hall last December 16. I got here Dec. 3 and the very next day we went to the city hall which is 1 hour away from house to get the license. Hubby made an appointment a month before for that. I knew we won't be having enough time to buy the dress so I brought my wedding gown and shoes with me from the Philippines. I had the gown ready by August. It's just a simple, long, white gown. I'm kinda short so it's difficult for me to buy RTW gowns. I was glad I didn't gain too much :). We hired a photographer who is familiar in San Francisco City Hall so that we will have nice shots. It's really a nice City Hall. My friends and family thought it's a church. We bought a bouquet and corsage too :) We only have 3 guests and just made a reservation in a restaurant. It's less stressful and everything went smoothly.

Best Wishes again!!!

hey, that's the same scenario at my civil wedding! me, my then fiance, and his parents as witnesses :)

because that's the fastest way to do it w/in the 90-day period

but believe it or not we got to have a formal wedding too before the 90-period ended. it's easy really because you can do a lot of things online. we found a justice of peace to "redo" the ceremony (since we really were married already) for our guests sake. once that was clear, we booked a venue and chose the menu as well w/in a week. went looking for our cake, had my wedding gown already from the phils but there are a lot of nice and not so expensive gowns in our area if i didn't have mine already, went to bedbath and beyond for the centerpieces (coz it's a tradition here to give them away later) and did the invitations myself (both the nice formal blank cards from Michael's and the other "props").

it was fun and because we did everything together. it was a successful one as well. my aunt flew over to give me away and my sister from philippines came too as my maid of honor.

our motivation by the way was all the friends and family of my then fiance who wanted to share in the celebration of our marriage. we orginally had a guest list of just 50, and it turned out to be 125, but it was memorable and everybody was happy.

:)

We're going to have the whole online video site, but I'd also like to surprise her with some touches from home.. Is there a special dinner that I can have prepared for her, flowers shipped in, etc? Anything to make my sweetheart's day a little more memorable..

We arrived into the states on the 26th of March 2009. We had a wedding on the 23 of May 2009. We managed to pull it off and it was fun. I was surprised how many of my friends and family rallied. My friends that have planned weddings say that most of the planning happens in the last few months. I tossed around the idea of doing a civil thing and then an event later but I am glad we went for it and just did the wedding. Have fun in Vegas!! We are heading there on the 30th of March for my Grandmother's 80th B-Day. My Husband is super excited. We are staying at the Bellagio. When is your wedding? Congrats!!

First, congratulations for your upcoming wedding day! I hope you two are very happy together. I had a civil wedding in the Philippines. My wife and I agreed we needed to be married before entering the States. We also didn't have enough financial resources for a church wedding. Now that we have been in the U.S., we have saved quite a bit for an appropriate church ceremony. I know it's not the perfect fantasy wedding, but it suited us well in our situation then.

I have seen some church weddings in the Philippines. And there's one practice that involves candles and a rope that binds both of your hands together. I'm not really sure what it's called, or if it's exclusively Filipino. But I though that was nice. :)

I only had 60 days to prepare our private garden wedding. Since i want my mom to atted my wedding, we processed her paper a month before our wedding. She arrived on time.I had a private wedding. I bought my dress here in the US, hired an italian chef and an assistant cook to prepare our food, got a band for our music, hired a photographer.

Since my hubby and i were not able to invite our other friends in the wedding, we also had a post wedding party.

I had something new, something borrowed and something blue. I had the most wonderful maid of honor who helped me with everything.

Thank you for your replies guys. Even until now I still breakdown in tears knowing that my family won't be able to make it but I reckon no matter how long it will take for us to have the church wedding, the most important thing is it's part of the plan and I'm sure it will come without me knowing it.

Well, I think it's a bit odd to eat this at a wedding since it can be messy, but my girls' auntie found this lechon chef in Las Vegas. She wants to have a lechon dinner. I think she just wants to eat lechon and our wedding provides a good excuse.. The chef's contact info is:

Nonoy's Las Vegas Lechon Baboy

Lucky you Rhe! My mom and dad could have made it if the 90 days will be lifted. But my dad being a seaman, sets a barrier for them to arrange a visit, more so he can't leave his job without prior notice for long vacations.

708 Scholl Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89107

(702) 985-1316‎

OMG SUPERB! Thank you for this information. The original plan should have been going to the Steakhouse after the wedding for dinner but due to the basketball event in vegas this week, reservations are restricted.

Congratulations, Best Wishes and Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas. Don't forget to visit Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. Since you will be already in Vegas, if you're a nature lover, you might want to consider going to Utah by drive to see Canyons.
