oh and also on form I-693 instructions on page 4 number 2. it says that onlt if the ds-3025 was not properly completed and included as part of the original medical examination then you need to do the form I-693 and get it signed by a civil surgeon but if its alright then you can just sent the ds-3025.

hi, i am a k1 visa holder i am already in the states and married. I had my full medical examination in my country but now that i am applying for AOS. Do i need the form I-693? and if yes does someone knows how much does it cost to get this form signed by a civil sergeon in Florida....more specific in broward county

thanks in advance

You do NOT need an I-693 if you had your medical less than a year before you apply for AOS. I got an RFE for my medical because, for some reason, they are sending RFEs to EVERYBODY lately for their medicals.... Anyway, I replied to the RFE with a letter stating that my husband is not required to submit an I-693 because his medical ocurred less than a year ago. I also submitted part of the instructions for AOS and highlighted the section where it says that the I-693 is not required for a K-1 visa holder who had a medical under a year ago. I am assuming that it worked just fine since my husband's EAD came in the mail a few weeks later and his AOS has been approved....

we had the same problem too,, i live here in dallas fort worth area and my husband had been calling those doctors available on our area but the person who answered on the phone always said the same thing, we need to have a medical again, when i have my medical 3 months ago in philippines, they will say who they will know i am healthy. my husband even read them through phone the instructions of I-693 the K non-immigrant visa part but still they won't transcribe the vaccinations. Is it ok to send the DS_3025 instead of I-693?

I'm not entirely sure where you guys are all getting that you have to have your vaccinations transcribed to the I-693... We did not have the vaccines transcribed. We never submitted an I-693 in any form. We only submitted our vaccination supplement that my husband got from the doctor in Morocco. We got an RFE the same as everybody else, but I replied to the RFE with a page of the I-693 instructions on which I highlighted the section where it says that an I-693 is not required from a K-1 visa holder if the medical occurred less than a year ago... My husband's AOS was approved not long after that... Yes, just send your DS form and if they send you an RFE, send them a highlighted instruction page like I did. :-) Don't stress.

VJ is based on the knowledge of it's members and them being around to SHARE the info. Others who have submitted just the DS3025 (overseas vaccination form) have been RFE'd specifically for the vaccination portion of the I-693, so it has been assumed that they are starting to crack down on people not sending in the vaccination portion transcribed.

Also, it is not completely true that NOONE has to send in the I693. If the immigrant hasn't done all of their vaccines, they most certainly WILL have to get them in the US and have them transcribed by a CS before they can AOS. We need to make sure that we understand the questioner's case before making sweeping statements like "no one ever needs this".

Also, I think it isn't very conservative to recommend that people respond to an RFE with a letter basically telling them that they are wrong without letting them know the flip side. There are other avenues to pursue - a congressional inquiry, for example, though you're the second one now who has responded with the instructions and gotten through alright, and we were also going to try that route ourselves. However, if an adjudicator doesn't think your response is adequate, then they can deny your case, so I still think it's a bit risky, but I'm glad it's been working for some people, as it's the easiest way to respond.

you are right but if you look at both forms instructions (i-485, page 4. i-693 page 4) it clearly says that you don't need it unless it was not properly done or you have a class a medical. but otherwise the ds-3025 should be fine.

That is true, my response was under the assumption that the doctor who performed the medical was qualified enough to complete the DS form correctly. :-)

A DS 3025 can be correctly filled out AND someone may still need an I693 if all vaccinations are not complete at the time of the overseas medical. That was true in our case, so since Nik was getting some vaccines after the medical, an I683 was definitely required in his case. In the UK for example, the TDAP vaccine is really only for babies, and many doctors don't have the adult doses on hand, so it would have been difficult to get all the vaccines before the medical.

How do you guys convince this civil surgeon that K1 who has less than a year medical wont need another medical?

I printed out the guidelines section from the I-485 instructions showing that, in case they argued, and showed up in person, didn't call on the phone. It turned out we didn't need it, the clinic we used was accustomed to the process.

Google I-485 instructions and click the PDF.
