This is awesome. The WSJ published funding request letters from the stimuls bill's staunchest opponents which all concede the fact that the stimulus funds will save or create jobs and stimulate the economy in their states and districts. So, it's working. Only they can't say that in public where they've gone on record with the opposite message.

Letters here

From the letters - oh this is fun...

Sen's. Cornyn / Hutchinson (TX): "...positive effect this grant will have in the region by ... creating jobs..."

Rep. Sue Myrick (R, NC): "Funding ... will bene fit 250 [training] participants ... and lead to solar energy related jobs..."

Rep. Paul Ryan (R, WI): "...place 1,000 workers in green jobs"

Rep. Jean Schmidt (R, OH): "...will not only save jobs but create multiple jobs in Southern Ohio."

Alabama Delegation (Rep) "...in keeping with the intent of the president's stimulus package, this money would help provide jobs for chemical applicators, foresters and others..."

Sen. Bennett (R, UT): "...the addition of federal funds ... would maximize the stimulative effect of these projects on the economy. Many local governments and agencies have identified "shovel-ready" projects which are ready-to-go now..."

Many of those Republicans that have criticized the Stimulus Bill as ineffective have suddenly become giddy over Obama's proposal to build a nuclear power plant.

So lets recap:

Alternative energy, health and education - boo!

Military Defense Contracts and Nuclear power - yay!

just goes to show that if you throw enough money at something, eventually you might see results.

of course, the question is - is the payoff worth the money thrown at it?

That might be a worthwhile debate. But when you stand there on Capitol Hill claiming that the Recovery Act hasn't saved and/or created a single job and has not had any stimulating effect on the economy while writing letters requesting Recovery Act funds because they would save and/or create jobs and stimulate the economy, then you speaking out of both sides of your mouth. That's hypocrisy any way you slice it.

Politicians are hypocritical. Republican pigs are little different than Democrat pigs. They all confiscate money from me and throw it into the trough to feed the pigs. This is some sort of surprise? It is why I say the government should be kept out of as much as possible, the thought of them anywhere near my family's health care scares me to death!

These are hard words to swallow by the party whose policies got us there in the first place....
