If only that were true! I would rather the government pays for my healthcare, than my employer, or myself. Of course, the only way that would work, would be if they lock out the SEIU and restore some common sense into the civil service system. I mean, you get what you pay for, and I don't feel like paying for what I getting.

gimme 1 example of a private company competing w/ a government program. just 1

I don't want competition. The system is so ###### up, the only solution is to nationalize the whole healthcare industry, from bedpans to bandages. Let's put prison industries to work, making something besides building government furniture and license plates.

odd the cbo & insurers disagree. but, you & other ##### head dems don't listen.

Of course they would, having your company being made obsolete as government gets more efficient sucks. Do you know who the biggest opponents are to simplfiying the tax code? HR Block and Intuit.

you wanna point out where the dems bills actually lower costs & improve services?...yah i din't think so.

Senate version page 621 ff - Title III - Improving the Quality and Efficiency of Health Care.

If that's too much for you to read, here's a little Q&A from Reuters.

Q: How does the bill reduce costs?

A: The bill seeks to save money by streamlining paperwork and providing more information to consumers to help them make decisions about their healthcare.

Other cost savings will be driven through Medicare, the government healthcare program for the elderly and Medicaid. Lawmakers hope that payment reforms that reward quality rather than quantity of services and treatments will help drive down costs. The bill aims to encourage coordinated care for patients particularly those with chronic conditions.

Studies have shown that better coordinated care can save significant amounts of money and improve the quality. The bill will provide for pilot programs to explore some of those cost saving methods for Medicare and Medicaid.

It also will encourage creation of Medical Homes and Accountable Care Organization where doctors, hospitals and other health providers can better coordinate care.

well thank you. that is the first time anyone has posted anything to back the claim of lowering cost.....i still don't think 'printing on both sides of the paper' will do much to reduce costs. 'aims to encourage coordinated care' i'm not real fond of the governments aim either

Well, you're welcome. I don't think they're talking about printing on both sides of the paper but rather eliminating much of the paper altogether via electronic records which would make coordinated care much easier to accomplish. Well coordinated care cuts cost and improves outcomes - it's done in other places and it has shown to work. If you want to cut costs, you can't sit there opposing steps towards the elimination of the fee-for-service model that rewards quantity over quality of care. Well you can but then you can't expect to be taken seriously.
