That certain people Should be getting free handouts from the government because of discrimination against their race 50 years ago or anything of the sort.

Why are you in complete denial about the discrimination in the U.S. against Blacks that is still happening today?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Who is getting free handouts from the government based on their skin color alone? A real, bonafide example of it actually institutionalized? Don't just go by hearsay and conjecture.

That's a private scholarship fund. And like I stated earlier, there are specific scholarships for Jewish applicants, or children of war veterans. Is is discriminatory to exclude applicants who don't meet those criteria? In other words, why do you single out scholarship programs for Black students when many scholarships are specific to a particular applicant?

In 2010, who is not allowing anyone to accomplish whatever they want? Seriously, I'm really interested.

Those who discriminate based upon skin color, etc..

As I said before, I'm aware of the past, but it has no relevance in today's world, imo.

You need to be more aware of the present. Discrimination against Blacks is alive and well in the U.S. today.

And I do think the general opinion of 'blacks need these programs or else they cannot compete with whites' is inherently racist, and actually does more harm than good.

Straight from Rush's racist mouth to the pages of VJ. Couldn't you come up with a better straw-man argument?

Once again, spoken like a person with no Black friends, nor Black family, nor Black acquaintances.

What else is affirmative action then?

Well first of all, lets be clear - most scholarships are privately funded, and are applied discriminantly based on myriad of criteria (Jewish, children of war veterans, Black, etc.).

As for what is Affirmative Action, this page from Stanford University is pretty good at explaining what it is as well the controversy:

Only goes to show how wrong you are :D...

I don't need to handicap myself to make myself equal to them. We are equals as is. And yes, they are all aware of my opinion, and go figure...they agree.

Take a white man into a black neighborhood and you will experience racism first hand.

I dont think anyone is saying that racism is gone but its not at the levels that you think they are, I mean come on we elected a black President, give it up jeez.

Hey Steve do they have these special scholarships for white kids trying to get out of these meth infested trailer parks?

You dont have to be of a certain color or race to need a helping hand and its backward thinking to think this should be the criteria.

I can't believe that so many here are not aware of the number of private scholarships out there with certain criteria. Here's just a few:

Jewish War Veterans of America

The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

The Jeanette Rankin Foundation Scholarship Program (for women)

Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation for Low-Income Women and Children

The R.O.S.E. Scholarship (domestic violence victims)

AAMN (American Assembly of Male Nurses) ...which provides scholarship to men who wish to enter the field of nursing.

....

So again, why the focus on scholarships for Black Minorities?
