play the smoke and mirror game all you want. the fact remains that candidates were shut out from the job because of their ethnicity. and yeah, the winner may have better qualifications, but when limiting the selection pool to certain ethnicities i'm finding it difficult to believe that the best overall (including the ones shut out) won the process. and the reason for that is - if they'd have won on merit alone, why have the selection limited to certain ethnicities?

and i'll agree to that in bold - towards those shut out from the selection process just due to their skin color. ;)

Thus beautifully illustrating how you do not understand the point of positive discrimination. This is a job where all the candidates will be qualified and the job will go to the best fit. There have been too many occasions where the best fit has been A WHITE GUY!

Your comment was equally racist because you are suggesting that there are real situations where white people are chosen to do a job because they are white but do not accept that job because they have been chosen simply because of their skin colour, while all the time minorities just accept this as part of their due entailment and have no compunction about 'stealing' a job from a white man.

i made no specification to minority ... just stated that charles ... myself ... and a few others would not be happy if we were given a job in due to our skin color. where did i state the skin color? must have been stated in the words "and a few others."

guess since you are polarized that i meant a certain skin color ... that you now feel capable of reading my thoughts through the internet. keep trying to speak for me ... it's not going to work ...

You didn't need to specify anything. You made a statement that has SPEFICIC implications. Apparently, you are are not aware of that, even after I have explained to you what those implications are and why this makes it a bigoted statement. I am not sure whether you will ever get it, which sadly means you will remain bigoted.

you are way too hilarious ...

guess in my career i'm fortunate to work with people from all parts of the globe and really i don't give a ###### about race ... color ... creed ... gender ... etc. i do not believe a person should be given preferential treatment due to whatever pc reason in the hiring process. a person enters the company from a level selection field based on skill sets alone and can perform the tasks required for the job. the thought that a more qualified candidate who wanted to apply for a position and was forbidden to apply or was not selected because of the need to be pc is plain bad business.

i don't have time for BS ... i want to work with the best. if the company wants to be pc and discourage better talent from applying ... the question becomes ... do i really want to stay here ...

Ah, change of tack? Fine, but it's got nothing to do with being PC and everything to do with whether 'best fit' amounts to middle aged white guy every time. Do you get it yet?

i do get that those are your words ...

sad this is your perception ... maybe you ought to stand outside my office door and make that statement ... you'd be laughed at in multiple languages and by people from all over the world.

For suggesting that 'white guy' has been best fit in the US in a way that is quantifiable regardless of qualifications during the job selection process? Oh dear. You'd have been better to keep silent rather than try to continue with such a pathetic response.

What has that got to do with anything? You jumped on Charles comments that any self respecting person would turn down a job rather than accept it because they won it due to being preferred because of their skin colour and now you are trying to suggest that simply because you work with people of all creeds that comment wasn't bigoted? Right, that works.

keep fishing ....

imagine the co-workers ... knowing you were given "preferential" treatment in hiring. workplace dynamics outside of your control may have just been readjusted to not favor the new nugget. not saying that is fair or my personal opinion. just stating a potential scenario.

my co-workers didn't get their job based on skin colour ... the hiring process is very level. they got the job because of their skill sets ... do their skill sets meet the requirements for the job. yes or no.

i want a job on merit ... not because of how i look. i'd rather not go down that path ... unless it was for a modeling agency (and that isn't happening anytime soon :P )

Keep sailing down the river of denial. You made the comment riding on Charlie's coat tails. It was bigoted, regardless of how cool you are in the work place.

it's strange ... you're the one tossing the "bigot" word around so liberally ...

i just stated that some people simply would not be comfortable accepting a job because they were were given preferential treatment based on their skin colour ... and not their skill sets ..

wonder what MLK would say about colour being the determining factor for being given a job ... and not the content of the persons character?
