Hi...have not been on in quite a while. My fiance is waiting for her interview appointment in Guanzhou. All I need to do now is send her the packet for her to take with her. A friend I met on this site has already gotten his fiance here from China as well. He had his mother write a letter stating that she had talked to his fiance on the phone many times and was looking forward to her coming to the states...etc.etc. From what I hear the Embassy was quite impressed with that. I am having a family member do the same. My fiance has talked to my Aunt and my best friend many times over the past months. Should I get these letters notarized or just send them as they are? Thanks in advance. Jeff

I did this and had my family notarize them (I had one each from my parents, brother & grandfather.) Can't hurt & your bank will usually do it for free or a nominal fee.

this varies depending on the Visa officer (VO), usually the VO doesn't have time to read letters as they have other interviews to do, interviews last from 10-15mins. if you can get the notrization for free then go ahead, if not then I would send it to her without notorization. Most banks do notorization for free.

you might want to prepare an 'evolution of relationship ' letter, and inside of it - cover EXACTLY how the two of you communicate. Communication has been an issue at GUZ this past year - many white slips because of it - not 'mounds of documentation on content' - but a one to two sentence blurb in a paragraph inside of the EOR letter.

I suggest a 1 to 2 page EOR letter, notarized. She'll present it on interview day.

Good Luck !

Unless they specifically ask for notarization, you can either notarize it or affirm it.

Notarize = notary public

Affirm = "I affirm the statement above to be true" X signed/dated by the person making the statement. (no need to be notarized)

Either one is acceptable.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.
