I will say I did have a hard time during the interview--the lady didn't believe it was my signature--I inadvertently left out my middle inital--and she made me write my name about 100 times. Each time, my signature was slightly different so that didn't really help.

And I'm not guaranteeing that anyone can do it in 2 weeks, I'm just stating my case...so if you can, plan for longer, but if not, pray that you can get it done (or another trip...).

Was not disputing you at all. Just wanted to let the OP know that it takes time. I am sure it will depend on where he gets his dona at and the coffee money. I am sure that a few days is not even going to be close to what they need.

I understand what you were trying to say...I was trying to emphasize that fact too. I was VERY lucky to get mine done within the two weeks I was there.

I got there on a Sunday Feb 22nd Did all the paperwork on Monday Feb 23rd they told us our interview date was March 5th they gave us that date on Feb 23rd before we had the cerimony. We had the cerimony on Feb 28th so It was just short of 2 weeks. However if you want to pick up the marriage certficate you will have to wait an additional 2 weeks for that so figure 1 month minumum. We passed the interview and were told to come back to sign for the certficate a month later. The earliest they told us they could do it would have been 2 weeks later so figure 1 month minumum if you want the certficate to make it legal.

I thought I read on here or someplace that if you are Vietnamise it doesn't take as long. My wife and I had to be interviewed first at Su Tu Phap they made sure we can communicate with each other before they would give us a date to sign for the certficate. It might also very depending on where your wife is from in Vietnam or what Su Tu Phap office she goes to. Maybe they are more willing to accept bribes or have more means to expedite it.

Maybe thats what I was thinking because her brother never had to interview, but him and his wife are locals.

I think if you can do all the paperwork here and if they accept it all not sure if they will or not. When they schedule an interview and you can show up the day before you interview and get married then pass the interview on the next day then bribe heavily maybe 500 to 2k to see if they will let you sign the marriage documents within 2 weeks you might be able to pull it off, but I think it would take you a little more than 2 weeks better plan for 3 weeks and bring huge amounts of bribe money.

This will also be concern for red flags be prepared for a blue or white slip at time of interview unless you have several trips already or get a sympathitic CO.

Technically, you can marry with or without getting the marriage registered (i.e. in a church). It just wouldn't be recognized by the "state"/"country". However, without it being recognized by the "state"/"country" (aka. no marriage license) you can't apply for family/marriage visa.

I hope you're not talking about USD when you say 500-2K--that's pretty hefty! You can probably get by with 500VND or 50USD would probably even do it.. 2k is just 2 much!

Before I hired mr Ellis I found this website tuvanquocte.com and here is what they quoted me

The total fee for whole process is US$3,000 including marriage certificate and its related gov't fee, 'under-table' fee.

I think under the table fee is code for bribe money. I was also told they could not promise it in 2 weeks it was a best effert thing.

WOW...that's like more than one average person's annual salary in VN!! That website must be making a killing!!!
