Obama and Dems in Congress Must Rethink Their Approach After GOP's Senate Victory in Mass.

For the last year it has been interesting to discuss the topic of healthcare...read "government nationalization of medical care".

But now the debate is over, the issue id dead (some Democrats don't realize it yet, just like they didn't realize Coakley would lose when her poll numbers dropped 30 points in two weeks...duh!) It is over.

No one in congress has the NADS to continue but there will be much postering and prosteletizing of which I have no interest. Like a dream come true, not only did they lose but they are now largely pushing for a MORE liberal stance, they want to take the ball and run FURTHER to the left. Typical response "when liberal ideas don't work it is because we need MORE liberal ideas" Personnally I am thrilled, the things dreams are made of. But I see no need to argue the point further. The Dems have picked up the ball and are running the wrong way! I will cheer them on and hope they don't realize it until they score one for the other team. WE, the US citizens, WON! Obama will similarly now slip down the tubes. It was inevitable and he began his slide several months ago. Anything more I could say at thois point will only serve to pull the Dems head out of the sand and I do not wish for that to happen.

So, it was great fun debating with you, by all means...carry on!

G&A you called this election with certainty ... before it was certain!

Five points for your tally.

The referenced article from the OP is dead on (I've been saying much the same things about the Democrats). I would also reiterate the necessity of winning over the Independent voter, because they voted 2-1 for Brown & that's how he won.

Yep. I was reading last night the events that unfolded from the point when Coakley was up by 30 in the polls until Brown started making it a race. The better candidate one. I don't agree with his political views, but he has more charisma and voter appeal in his pinky than Coakley had altogether. Offending Catholics and not knowing who Curtis Schilling is just showed how out of touch she was with her constituents. I thought maybe the DNC just sat on their hands over this one, but it looks like they had tried to help as much as they could, however, Coakley is no Kennedy.

THe truth is.... the DNC never bothered activated the attack campaign, who knew that would need one?

It's never just one single reason, but Coakley's numbers went from 30 points over Brown and dropped dramatically when she turned off Catholics with her stupid comment about working in hospitals as well as thinking that Curtis Schilling was a Yankee. Scott Brown has a likable personality. He's smart, down-to-earth, good-looking, and he campaigned hard, on the ground, and didn't give up. Coakley thought she had this one in the bag and deserved to lose. What's upsetting to Democrats like me isn't so much that she lost, but the problem this presents for Obama to push forward his agenda. It's time to change the Senate rules requiring a super majority to end filibustering.
