You're spot on. Religous zealots have caused nothing but suffering to humankind.

Obviously words spoken by someone unaware of the millions and millions sent every year to aid people in places of need around the world. Nor the scores of Orphanages, clinics, Hospitals, food banks relief agencies.... that exist right in your home city, all thanks to folks who believe the the very things you would brand them as zealots for.

Of course you can parse what "religious zealot" means to you but I would bet CBN will do more to help the people in Haiti than any civic group you belong to.

After all if you were in Haiti this morning who would be your better friend Pat Robertson who is delivering aid by the ton and trained aid workers and who also says quirky stuff or you Mr Big Dog?

:)

Seems to me that if Mr. Robertson really understood what Jesus Christ was all about, he'd also understand that kicking people when they are down is a horrible and unnecessary thing to do, and that he should make amends for what he said. Quite aside from the fact that talking about a bunch of 'deal with the devil' claptrap is an outdated form of religious pot stirring that is in no way constructive or enlightening.

So this gives him the right to make the comments he did? What good is the help if you're going to demonize them? It just seems contradictory to me.

I'm not saying the man is a horrible person. Most of my earlier comments were made in jest or to be taken w/ a grain of salt. I'm sure he is probably a decent person in real life but when you go on the public record sometimes you have to hold your tongue, especially when it has only been a matter of days since this has happened.

His comments seemed very unnecessary at this time when ppl are still buried alive there.

Again, good people devoted to one religion or another is not what I consider to be religious zealots. Not that you'd want to understand the fact that people can be religious w/o being zealots. And it's those good people - whether they're devoted to any religion or not - that do and fund the good work you refer to.

How is Robertson "kicking someone when they are down"?

Watch that clip again and tell me where you got that from. He any many others are... and have been all along "Helping others when they are down" not just in this latest new-cycle story.

He seems to believe that this country has a curse over it, he doesn't seem to take any joy in this conclusion.

At one time we used to sing... and believe "God bless America".

if one believes God blesses or prospers a nation how far of a jump is it to believe God could withhold his blessing from a nation clearly saturated in witchcraft, (not to mention any "pact" with the Devil that might have been made.)

It shows what a stupid notion it is that god should or would 'bless' one nation and 'curse' another. There are good, bad and indifferent people in all countries, all culture's and all walks of life. God would be very stupid if he wasn't able to differentiate between them.

pat robertson's charities are a joke.

Televangelist Robertson's Humanitarian Planes Used For Diamond Mining Firm

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -Airplanes sent to Zaire by evangelist Pat Robertson's tax- exempt humanitarian organization were used almost exclusively for his diamond mining business, say two pilots who flew them.

Three airplanes were flown to Zaire in September 1994 by Operation Blessing. However, chief pilot Robert Hinkle said only one or two of the roughly 40 flights during his six months in the country could be considered humanitarian. All the rest of the flights were mining-related, he told The (Norfolk) Virginia-Pilot.

if haiti actually had any natural resources, i'm sure pat could probably find a way to get a piece of them under the guise of humanitarian aid being sent there too, just like he did in the congo.

Probably falling on deaf ears - but his comment was incendiary and in no way constructive or helpful. Saying the earthquake was a punishment based on something that may or may not have happened decades ago, and even if it did happen was mostly based on a form of religious based and politically driven scaremongering, doesn't serve to assist the plight of the people who are suffering now.

The fact that the Haitian ambassador and other representatives from that country have taken offense to his comments gives an indication, I think, of how inappropriate and negative the comments were (not to mention utterly ridiculous).

We agree the comments were out of place but it seems people are misguided when they act as though it was said in some mean spirited way.

Who knew "Baptistpillar.com" was a source of investigative reporting.

might want to pass this story on to the IRS.

I don't think you understand Danno. No one is worried about whether it's mean spirited or not, it's the downright judgmental nature of such a statement that is totally without merit or necessity. Charity with strings is heinous.

if you'd actually read the article, you'd know that they were not the source of the investigative reporting. the nation also reported on the story, and the virginia department of consumer affairs conducted an investigation, concluding that he should be indicted. virginia's attorney general refused to do so. funnily enough, that same attorney general's largest campaign contribution, $35,000, came from Pat Robertson's PAC. his commentary about charles taylor in liberia is nothing short of amazing.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/1/14/82...-Blood-Diamonds

from the above link:

Here is Pat Robertson in all his glory:

• A man whose salary is funded by donations to a "Christian" tax exempt entity which required its African-American employees to enter the premises through the back door and to eat in separate dining areas.

• A man who makes so much money from his association with this "Christian" tax-exempt entity that he can afford to spend over $500,000 to buy a race horse and name it Mr. Pat, after himself.

• A man who is so eager to increase his personal wealth that he enters a business venture with a cruel dictator to mine diamonds and uses the planes from his "Christian" aid organization, "Operation Blessing" almost exclusively to carry mining equipment while telling his followers that their contributions will fund relief efforts and not mining for blood diamonds.

• A man who is so eager to increase his personal wealth that he enters another business venture to explore and mine gold with a dictator/terrorist actively engaged in committing crimes against humanity including murder, torture, rape, child slavery, and forcing children to be soldiers to explore for gold. The joint venture being housed on the same location as the "Christian Broadcasting Network" his tax-exempt entity.

I have one question for the "Reverend" Pat Robertson:

Just who made a pact with the Devil?

gross.

Unfortunately, Danno will simply dismiss that link and subsequent information out of hand. Dailykos is far to liberal for him. In fact, simply gazing upon the site might in fact blind him, you know, like the last scene in Raiders of The Lost Ark.
