Your husband needs diapers too?

You know what vegetables and beans can do to you...can't risk an accident in public. Yeah, my almost 2 year old isn't the one who needs diapers.

Not just the vegetables or fish, but the most price disparity I find is with spices. Out here at walmart you will get a small bottle of bay leaf for around $8 but yesterday I bought a big bag of bay leaf from the Chinese store for $0.75  I don't know how they do their business, funny thing is not many white people of the town know about the place, its usually is filled with Asians.

I get stuff for my white neighbors from the local chinese and indian grocers. They don't feel comfortable going there. The only white people I see in those stores are below 40.

They eat diapers. It's an Indian thing. Haven't you watched Slumdog Millionaire?

/since you can't have a conversation about India or Indians without mentioning that damn movie.

Jai ho!

We get our meat at a neighborhood halal grocer. Similarly priced to Costco, much better tasting!

really?? Here in VA they rob us at the halal meat stores. I compare the meat to other stores like safeway and we get a lot less meat for a lot more money. Sandwich meats are outrageously priced. Needless to say, we eat a lot of chicken and vegetarian meals because it's cheaper.

From time to time, when they catch me on my way out the door going there.

We buy a lot of lamb and goat... those are usually a better deal at halal places.

And yes, I can get goat at regular American grocery stores in my neighborhood now. New development. Very cool.

At 2 years, it's high time to potty train the kid. It's quite some task, takes a lot of patience and persistence but it saves the diaper money once done. And it eliminates the messy job of changing them diapers.

I'm not arguing that vegetarian is necessarily cheaper. You can certainly spend a lot of money on groceries without buying meat. My point was only if you are trying to eat a balanced diet on a tight budget, you are better off skipping the meat. Meat can be replaced with boiled beans and rice, which is a lot cheaper. Add in some seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables and some milk and you can get along quite well.

As for the amount that is spent on food, my wife and I spend about $400 on food a month, but about half of that is at restaurants.

Just a side note. We raised goats when I was growing up. I helped deliver my goat, Strawberry's kid, named him Albert and about 9 months later, we ate him.
