Hello everyone!! Hope everyone can help me with this question. I am waiting for our interview date, everything else was approved. I read that someone saw someone get denied because the fathers name was missing from the birth certificate. Is this ture??

We have all of my fiances fathers info but he is not listed on the actual birth certificate. He is not in his life. Now I am soooo scared that we will get denied because of something that can't be helped. Does anyone have info?? Or is there something else we can get, a affidavit? He knows his dad, he just isn't around or a good father. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!! Stessing big time!!

While I cannot attest to what you read, if you do some reading on this site, you'll see that many people do have have father's listed on the birth certifacate and have no issues with approval. How did you list the father on documents? Did you leave it blank or did you list it as 'unknown'?

This is the 21st century, father's are not listed on birth certificates, it's a fact of life these days. USCIS, NVC, and the consulates know this. Besides, if it was truly an issue you'd know before you got your NOA-2 from USCIS.

Good luck.

On all of the forms we filled out we listed his fathers information but on the birth certificate it says "nil." I am soo nervous now! I hope it is ok! Thanks for you help!

I don't think it's an issue. If it would make you feel better, you can get a letter from the father and mother outlining the situation (ie - why the mother didn't list the father on the birth certificate and when the father learned of the child etc).

However, I don't think you'll need it but if it makes you more confident at the interview then it can help!

Good luck.

My fiance, now my husband filled out all his form with his father's particulars, but did not have him on his birth certificate. I attended the interview along with my fiance in November 2009, Kingston Jamaica and they issued the visa without asking any questions about his dad. You should be fine.

Same thing....we filled out the K-1 in 2005, no father's name on birth certificate. Hell, his even had wrong mother's name on the certificate.....she found out she had a different name while growing up. We put what we knew on the K-1 including the fact that father was dead now and why mother's name different. I did not even attend the interview. No problems whatsoever.

Thanks guys!! I appreciate all of your help! I feel better!!

When you guys went for your interviews, what stuff did you bring to show your relationship? Telephone bills, all of them or certain months? Thanks guys!!

You need to take telephone logs, (if any)pictures, money transfer receipts (if any). just about whatever you can think of that will be able to prove that you have a bonafide relationship. Good luck on your journey

I brought all that, but the interviewer didn't ask to see any of it. I offered and she said "no need." I think my presence there was enough proof (or the fact that the initial petition contained pictures). I had pictures of our families together, phone logs for every other month from filing to interview (9 months), copy of all pages of my passport to show the 10 stamps to Jamaica, and updated letters of intent. The lady didn't need to see any of it though.

But as it is better to be safe than sorry, you may want to bring whatever you think is necessary.

Also, go to Embassy Info and read reviews of peoples' interviews in Kingston. That gave me invaluable information.
