In reading through the guides, they state that for a K3 visa holder to obtain a SS card, you have to bring:

1.

The SS-5 form you downloaded and filled out (they have some at the office if you forget).

2.

Passport (with the K-2, K-3, or K-4 Visa in it)

3.

your valid I-94

4.

another form of valid ID (as defined in the SS-5 instructions)

5.

A valid EAD

We have the passport, the I-94, the EAD, and the SS form, but I am not sure what qualifies for another form of valid ID. In the SS5 form, it states that a passport works as ID for evidence of age, and for evidence of identity it needs to be something with your legal name and biographical data (like a photo), wouldn't the EAD work for that, since it has a name and photo? If so, then why does the guide say you need another form of ID? It also says that a birth certificate will not work as evidence of identity. We have a translated copy of his birth certificate, as well as his Egyptian driver's license, but we have been unable to get him a driver's license or state ID card here so far.

What other form of ID did you take when you applied?

Thanks!

You are good to go with those that you have enumerated.

I received my SSN yesterday. I just presented my passport and I-94 when I filed back in November.

It doesn't really matter if you hold K3 or K1. The SSN application requirements are generally the same.

Hakuna matata.

God bless us all.

I did a K-1, but I was asked for my birth certificate.

You'll probably want to bring it along just in case.

No they are not. A K-1 can use the I-94 as evidence of work authorization up until they have been here 76 days. A K-3 needs an EAD card as soon as they arrive.

Take your EAD card, passport and birth certificate and you should be OK.
